Current state of STGBuilder

Post by madman467467378 »

Hi,

does somebody know the current state of the STGBuilder? I tried to ask the creator of this engine on https://twitter.com/StgBuilder but he is not responding.
I found out that a new english version was announced about a year ago but i cant find it anywhere. Is it still not released?

I already posted in a thread about an inofficial english translation but this was cancelled and probably not the right thread to ask after such long time.
Thats why i made this new thread hoping I am not alone with my interest in this engine.

Thanks for replies

It's dead. Edit: Specifically: The English version. The Japanese one still receives updates
I wasn't on the alpha testing group, but someone who was told me it's been silent for like a year. No new versions or announcements have been made.
If you cannot use the Japanese version of SB, you need to look for another engine.

While I have no inside information, is it not maybe a bit premature to say, definitively, "it's dead"?

As far as I understood the announcement on the other thread, version 1.0 of STG Builder would be the first with (official) English support. I've checked the download page (http://blog.livedoor.jp/stgbuilder/), and there have been no updated releases since last year.

If and when a v1.0 is released and doesn't have English, is when I will give up hope. Bear in mind that once the translations have been done, they will be trivial to implement.

P.S. Some Westerners have managed to do cool stuff with this. Check out Trigonometry Wars 4 by forum member Geist118, for example. <-- Edit: This might be incorrect. I know I've seen a few though.

Last year, about the same time, I would have said the same (English version was said to go beta "by the end of the year"). Another year passed, nothing happened, not a blip, nothing.
I stand by "dead".

That's a shame. Still no comparable free alternative.

The unofficial patch still exists, though, if the OP can work it out. It's the lack of English documentation that stops it being useful for me. Which probably would have needed a community effort anyway, even with a translated UI.

Yeah, thats exactly the problem. I even tried to start an english documentation but most translation in SB is done via automatic translation and that makes it very hard to find out what it means.
I tried translating the japanese SB wiki but different translation tools (I tried google and bing) use different terms for the same things which is confusing. Enormous trial and error would be needed to find
out what most options do.

*bump*
STGBuilder silently released on steam as 'Shooting Game Builder' earlier this month. (~$24 USD)

Seems they may have addressed this too; their steam page now links to "English document". I haven't tried it, but figure someone here might like to be made aware of this.
