Ellinor Waizen will make shmups great again. I even went as far as to say that Ellinor is to shmups what Carol Danvers is to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Try starting a cult maybe. There's plenty of Aleste fans here, I think you could make it work.

I don’t care how they design her or the ship. As long as it’s a good game I’m all in!

I'm more talking about their penchant for putting protagonists in ridiculously tacky outfits. God forbid a character wear a normal pilot uniform.

The video part, though. What, Ellinor’s new pilot suit too fanservice-y for you?

Let's just pretend she was at the beach at the moment the enemy attacked and there was no time to redress before jumping into the fight

Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.

https://www.usgamer.net/articles/aleste ... um=twitter

New article about the game on USGamer with screenshots. It was shown off at HEY and it seems like they're using Unity for the engine, so it's likely to get ported to...basically anything.

Yikes.. That ship reminds me a lot of Philosoma. And anything that reminds me of Philosoma is rarely good.

Will be curious to see some live gameplay in action.

Is it possible to make a shooting game with responsive controls in Unity?

Natsume's The Ninja Warriors Once Again was apparently made with Unity, and its input response is razor-sharp. Even sharper than the already airtight SFC original, I'd say. I hardly play any current-gen stuff these days, but given TNWOA's performance, and M2's own record of excellence, I wouldn't worry.

Totally tech-illiterate here, apologies if there's a specific performance issue with STGs in Unity versus other action genres.

To me that looks like a verti doujin proto, and hardly what I'd expect from anything titled 'Aleste'.

So the status is still :?:

Nah, I just imagined that the insane overheard of engines and libraries stacked on top of eachother would result in some kind of unavoidable input lag and/or unpredictable performance.
Didn't realize TNWOA was Unity - that's impressive.

A few weeks ago, one of the FPS devs I follow (the guy that made Dusk) talked about character movement in Unity. Apparently the default movement code in Unity is poor for fast paced games like FPS titles (or shmups) and it has to be re-written if you want fast/snappy movement in your game. They talked about doing this with Dusk and the end result is a game that's extremely snappy. As long as the devs in question are experienced enough, I don't see movement being an issue in Unity.

Any default gameplay stuff in Unity is bad if you have a genuine interest in how your game really plays. If you want a solid, professional looking product, you need to do all that stuff from scratch. Character movement especially is so basic that I doubt most devs would even consider using any of the built-in stuff.
Unity is great for more generic utility stuff, like when you don't want to create an optimized 3D rendering engine from scratch.

I have no idea what advantage a 2D game has from Unity.
