I really like them a lot as well. My memory isn't the best but Lunar EBC might have been my first traditional style JRPG that I ever played.Shelcoof wrote:Yhaa my copy of SSSC box has turned brown. Eternal Blue though is in pretty good shapeSteamflogger Boss wrote:

I'm a huge Lunar fan... even though I haven't played all of them I'm in love with the series. Dating back to when EGM had ads in their magazines for the Sega CD game... I've always had this nostalgic love for it.

Yeah most of the discs are in fantastic shape as well. The pal PDS and PD do have some wear but many of the others look untouched. Same guy I got the ps1 games from.

Got some Switch swag this past week:
Collector's/Limited Editions for Astral Chain, Daemon X Machina and Oniken/Odallus doublepack. The first two are frigging huge.
Astral Chain's package opens up to this art piece of The Guy and Officer Hotpants, along with with a Thank You from the developers. Underneath that is the game, artbook and soundtrack.
Daemon X Machina meanwhile opens up like a hangar door to show the figurine, underneath which is a compartment that houses the artbook, game and steelbook.

is the daemon x machina figure pretty good, or is it par-for-the-course "this is a video game special edition statue" and made out of cheaper plastic than a happy meal toy? i watched an unboxing video and it looked very much like the latter, complete with that weird, ugly, cheap paint job they tend to do on these things that looks nice in small resolution but looks awful under any inspection (and also complete with the unboxer just using a bunch of superlatives to describe it, as always). the box looks cool, at least.

On this subject kinda.. New figure prices have really spiked lately. I don't mind it for good figs but my word I saw one up for pre-order for 12k yen that looks like a prize fig when you see the face and hair. The body is incredible so the contrast is friggin stark.kitten wrote:is the daemon x machina figure pretty good, or is it par-for-the-course "this is a video game special edition statue" and made out of cheaper plastic than a happy meal toy? i watched an unboxing video and it looked very much like the latter, complete with that weird, ugly, cheap paint job they tend to do on these things that looks nice in small resolution but looks awful under any inspection (and also complete with the unboxer just using a bunch of superlatives to describe it, as always). the box looks cool, at least.

^ i think it depends a lot on the manufacturer and distributor. something like goodsmile has a lot of reliable lines they own (like figma & nendoroid) but also curate what they'll sell through their online shop and help distribute it, and it usually seems to be pretty high quality. i know they distribute some stuff by 3A, ashley woods' company, and i think their toys are pretty cool if overpriced (great paint applications, really nice fabric parts, kind of cheap plastic and lots of shared parts between the figures for lower production cost). they also sell some, uh. well. i had to look up what a tenga was and it frankly made this right here a little weirder.
a lot of people who buy figs seem to shotgun whoever produces the stuff their waifu is from, and i feel like that winds you up in the ballpark of a lot of production companies looking to squeeze the bottom dollar out of desperate fans. i can't really remark too much on how bad that exploitation is from lesser known manufacturers, but i imagine it can get pretty bad. i tend to stick to names i know & trust and just getting a thing or two from something i really love rather than the whole suite of their merch. i don't rly have any waifus/husbandos, though i do shotgun a bit with kirby & made in abyss and have been blessed that they've mostly exclusively used respected manufacturers.

Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
Goodsmile is, well, a good company. I don't really think Nendos and Figmas are all that overpriced though I don't really buy a ton of either. The neat thing about them at the very least is all the options that you get. With scale figs, you are getting one pose, face etc even if it is really badass.
I like sticking to brands I know are good as well. Alter is really excellent and I have a bunch of stuff from them. I have limited experience with Max Factory and Revolve but I am pleased with what I have from them. Revolve made the GOAT Holo fig so I will always appreciate them for that. As far as waifus I have three Selvaria figs so she probably counts.
This is a fig I want but I'm on the fence: https://myfigurecollection.net/item/872834 Really wish it was 1/8 and about 40k yen cheaper.
They got me on this one: https://myfigurecollection.net/item/693386 Much more going on, totally amazing at least from the concept art and cheaper. Buuut the manufacturer is a relatively small one so fingers crossed.
Speaking of goodsmile: https://myfigurecollection.net/item/675835 BAH GAWD.
I've definitely been unpleased with some figs, and a few companies do have well deserved poor reputations.
Prices are going up but the bottom line is the market tends to sort itself. If people are paying the price, it's "worth" that much. Chii is going for over retail at most places now. A figure I didn't pull the trigger on yet dipped from 10k yen initial pre-order to 8300 yen.

oh, i think they're fair - i was a bit unclear in my post, i just meant that i think in their larger scope, they do distribute things that are a tad overpriced like the 3A figs (i used to live with a 3A collector but only own one a couple 3A things, myself [robot heavy & the sandvich prop]) and some of their statues. i mostly buy 6" scale figs and nendos because i like posing a lot and enjoy the relative size uniformity (though i have a lot of smaller kirby diorama figs because rement puts out a set like every couple months). the price of statues often keeps me off, but they also take up tremendous display space. a lot of statues also kind of telegraph sexuality in a way i don't personally find attractive.Steamflogger Boss wrote:I don't really think Nendos and Figmas are all that overpriced though I don't really buy a ton of either.
the raunchiest fig i own is probably an anachronistically before-my-time omaha the cat dancer porcelain statue from the early 80's. my roommate put it right on the card game table - you can actually see catgirl ass in the upper left of my last photo in this thread. she's from a comic that started in the late 70's that tackles a lot of social issues, particularly against the sexual repression, conservatism, and anti sex worker attitudes of the time. comic was influential in early furry subculture back when it was closer to being an off-shoot of the sci-fi fandom. it's actually quite good! got glowing reviews from (i am not joking) harlan ellison and neil gaiman, had alan moore and frank miller contribute to a fanart book. really forgotten little treasure of a comic series that was really controversial at the time for depicting sex as an organic & important part of it without just being smut.
i should maybe take a picture of my shelves, some time. i have some media shelves where 25% of the stuff is toys and 75% is old games that i'm proud of the arrangement of.

I'd love to take a look at that kitten. I am hopelessly messy but appreciate clean set-ups. I do mostly have things on shelves but I wait awhile to shelve new acquisitions until I have many. Especially for anime since I have too much.
I recently started taking the curated collection approach and I'm really happy with where my ps1 collection is at. I have a lot of junk overall still though.
I'm eye balling some used figures since Chii got pushed back.

i'm currently housesitting, but was going through some old pictures and here's how it looked just about two years ago -
i've currently got three of these sets of shelves in the apartment, two of them in the classic gameroom next to each other. i'll take pics of how things currently are when i get back. the current set-up is a lot more meticulous and i'm really proud of its presentation, but i was happy with this at the time.

It has a nice 'library look', Kitten.
I have some Rockman figures here too. But where I live at the moment is so small that I have to keep everything pretty much boxed away. Eventually I'll have things set up nicely.
A few of the younger gamers have asked me how I can only play the old stuff. Well, it makes you realise when you see photos such as Kitten's that there are just so many games on many platforms that it would take all your time

My old monitor died, so I got a lovely Dell UltraSharp U2410 for ~$210. Thus far, totally worth it.
Using a stock pic for now because my desk is a bit of a mess.

Nice monitor. I have one that I use sometimes for games and blurays. I don't remember why but Amazon gave me a partial refund on it so it was $150 instead of $231 after tax (bought a couple years ago).Stormwatch wrote:My old monitor died, so I got a lovely Dell UltraSharp U2410 for ~$210. As far as the other poster consider that they are in Brazil, their options might be a bit more limited.

And indeed, everything tech-related is crazy expensive around here. Oh, I had failed to mention: it was ~$210, used. Now sure, there are cheaper models, but they are 16:9, lack the rotating stand, and have fewer ports. So I still think it was a good deal. Not only the picture quality is great, I love the industrial design, it's almost cyberpunk. Maybe I should play Deus Ex again.

Is Brazil the place where you technically cannot buy used items from abroad but everyone does anyway? There was a country somewhere that had that rule, and the Japanese being the ultimate sticklers held me to it -- made me write "new" on the customs form for shit that was 30 years old and out of box.Xyga wrote:Damn! sorry I had no idea the prices on tech stuff were so inflated over there.
