Deathsmiles - did a video for my YT series :)

I've always loved Deathsmiles. Awesome shmup, great art style, music is top notch, etc etc etc. But I have always wondered how this got released in the US in the first place? Especially as a limited edition with a X360 faceplate included?

I mean we barely get CAVE games at all, but this one we got. That was the "odd" component of including it in my series. That plus the whole lolita angle.

I still need to check out Deathsmiles II. Haven't played it yet. Worth it?

Lmk what you guys think of the video. Feedback welcome!

don't. Just don't. No. Don't.

In terms of gameplay DSII isn't bad, but upgrading the whole thing to 3D graphics didn't do anything good. The game is just ugly. It didn't look good when it was released and it certainly didn't hold up well.

I always wondered why they switched it to 3D. Probably cheaper / faster to develop

Honestly DSII doesn't look too bad if you run it on a CRT, I have an original Cave PC hooked up using a UVC running at 15Khz on a New Astro and it actually looks pretty good in person. Admittedly it looks hideous on a LCD screen or in online videos but you really have to see it in person on a CRT.

Lies... it still looks bad on a CRT.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Having played DS II recently, all I can say is that the game is awesome.
Don't listen to the detractors, try it out yourself.

Maybe it is going to be crap anyway, but how it would look DSII this way in an LCD/OLED screen?:

x360 (640x480) -> UVC (240p) -> OSSC (720p or 1080p) with fake scanlines

Maybe the lower resolution and added scanlines should make the visuals better?
I don’t have an OSSC to test it, but in my mind it looks great.. :roll: :x

Great vid man! I really enjoyed it :-) I actually have my own Deathsmiles vid sitting on my hard drive that I'm going to do some voice over for later today, so that's a funny coincidence ha. Yeah Deathsmiles is my favorite horizontal shmup as well. I subbed and will keep an eye out for more shmup vids in the future :-D

Sounds like it would add maybe too much lag?

DSII is so much fun 2 play for score. Definitely play it. The visuals I also hated at 1st.. but they grew on me. I really really like the game. It's fun as fuck... no reason 2 avoid it..
