Sync Strike - Can I disable sync stripping?

Post by sofakng »

Is it possible to disable sync stripping in the Sync Strike device?

Yes, I know that's the primary function, but I'd like to use it as a high quality (?) SCART to DB15 converter. I'm already using a gScart before the Sync Strike so I don't want two sync strippers active which shifts the picture too far.

I think the entire point of the sync strike is to strip sync. If you just want to change the connector, why not just use a passive adapter or cable?

I know you can buy a SCART to DE-15 cable from Retro-Access; that would give you a direct, shielded connection from the gscartsw to your DE-15 destination device, without having to go through one cable, through an exposed PCB, and through a second cable.

If you are looking for RGBs over DSUB, then just get this: https://insurrectionindustries.com/product/scart2dvi/
Then use this: https://amzn.to/2KEJc0G or this: https://amzn.to/2I3X6Yc

If you need RGBHV, that won't work though, you'll need a different device.

BTW, just so I don't confuse anyone (no offence), that device is JUST a connector changer with a low-pass filter and sync stripper built in (both switchable). It is NOT a converter or scaler. More info: https://www.retrorgb.com/videocapture.html

Thanks for the replies everybody.

I actually a 2m (6') SCART to BNC. However, nobody seems to sell them. RetroGamingCables (UK) sells a 1 meter cable but they won't make a 2 meter cable.

I can use their 1 meter cable with an extension but that can introduce noise, etc. It also makes the cable extremely long because most male-to-male SCART cables are 2m so that's 3 meters total.

I was going to recommend you use Retro-Access's custom cable builder, but it seems to have been removed from their website. Regardless, they do custom cables; just shoot them a message and ask them for a quote for the cable you want with shipping to the UK.
