ebay (and other) auctions with insane prices

Post by Ceph »

Post your finds here.

This seller must be an idiot:
$125 for the regular edition of Under Defeat
http://cgi.ebay.com/DC-UNDER-DEFEAT-DRE ... 8275348412

Another brain-damaged seller:
$999 for an unboxed PC Engine Duo-R
http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-NEC-PC-ENG ... Z821981686

Our friend Saturn-Box is rather well-known for tossing some rather head-spinning prices on some games, even though they are apparently new or near mint in many cases...here are a few of my favorite listings...

186 for Keio Yugekitai...

141 for Gekirindan...

236 for Thunder Force Gold Pack 2...

178 for Terra Cresta 3D...

and 430 for an import Saturn system.

None of these beat that one guy who put up a 200-plus buck copy of Space Invaders for the Saturn awhile back...or the 999-dollar copies of Wonder 3 Arcade gears I recall seeing.

I see lot,s of stuff like this people seem to think that if it,s little rare people will pay ridiculus sums of money for it.

Well, if the seller continusely doing this, there might be really someone buying from him/her at that ridiculus price.

But base on my own expriance, your stock simply don't sell at all at this price. :o

That is at least for me, if I would figure out why his/her stock sell, I would be rich.

Darius Alpha

I'm a long time Darius fan, and this guy's seriously brain damaged for thinking that price is justified... as would be the person who would pay that much for that game.

That's not a terrible price for Darius Alpha. It has gone for more in Japan, although the current price in Akihabara is about 78,000 yen. If you don't live in Japan, what else can you do?

Or better yet. Use one of them flash carts so you can play it on the real hardware.

Interesting - the guy with the Darius Alpha auction is also including the "www.dariusalpha.com" domain.

There is another copy for sale for $915; it's been available for quite a while and no-one has bought it so far- go figure.

It is beyond me why Darius Alpha would warrant such prices; as everyone knows it's not even a real game but merely a boss-rush.

Good Idea! The PCE flashcard is a bit expensive though, $115.

And look, there are Master System/Mega Drive/SNES flashcards as well:

Granted, it's sealed, but $70 for Agetec's US PS1 release of Strikers II? C'mon.

I don't know if it's insane or not, but someone just bought MD Slap Fight on ebay for 59 GB pounds.

I happen to look for the same game, but I was hoping to get it at a more reasonable price.

By the way, is the lucky man among us? :)

It ain't cheap, and it ain't worth it, but that's the normal price for that game.

I got Slap Fight today in the mail from a member here, and a bit cheaper too (since that's more than 59GBP after shipping).
Although I saw one go for appx $170US probably 2 weeks ago. I even bid, hah. The copy I got I think is worth every penny since I'm also a collector and I plan to keep this game for a very long time.

This I think is slightly less nuts, but still too high for my blood.

Yikes, I had no idea Grind Stormer was that expensive... I got mine from a member here along with a whole bunch of other stuff, but I think if I broke down and weighted the prices it would only have been $15 or $20 O______o;;;;

edit: now that's very curious that the bidding went that high. I just searched, and there's a complete one for a 35 GBP Buy It Now...

You definately right about this.

I actually bought one for $120 some time eailer. Luckly, I get away by later selling it to someone for around $100. :o It a good game, but definately not worth that price. :x

The PBC is rarely seen, plus its very big. BTW, I actually got a broken US version Slap Fight PCB, I am willing to give it to anyone for free, you just need to pay the postage.
iatneH wrote:...Grind Stormer was that expensive...
Really?! You are talking about the MD version? I do have a MD V-V cart complete with everythings. I think I acquire it recently for $20 to $30, I don't think it lay in the range of expensive. :o

V-V PCB should cost around 8,000 yen plus shipping, that not very costly compare to Batsugun Special version or Gunbird 2. :o

The only reason that game's that expensive, is the same reason you get people on eBay typing "SONIC 1 RARE L@@K!!!"... a seller hoping to find someone with enough idiocy to believe what they write and fall for their scam.

Its the Japanese version V-V which should sell at around $50. Not mega expensive, and it is Tengen.

Maybe years ago. But even in Japan you'll be hard-pressed now to find one under 5000 yen.

Holy ass that's unbelievable!! Full kit??? Barely over $100???

edit:
Anyway, back to Slap Fight, I was under the impression that the PCB wasn't all that rare, I remember searching on eBay last year and it would come up with 3 or 4 hits, and they would end around $40.
I could go visit a local pinball restorer and he probably has a handful of Slap Fight PCBs too, but the minimum price would be CAD$100. Might be bootlegs too.

Over the past year I've seen the MD version only pop up a few times, about very 2 months or so. The PCB....not so much.
I'll say the PCB looks and sounds better, but Genny did a pretty good job. Plus, it's a damn cool game to play on console anyways, even though it's balls hard (for me).

last year I bought a Slapfight PCB, and the seller didn´t protect the board at ALL. It was bare, rattling around in a box, and it was a rare non-Jamma version, so when I asked for a pinout, he tried to coax me into giving positive feedback before answering, which of course I didn´t. I tried to get the PCB running with a FAQ for unknown PCBs, but didn´t manage, and that´s the 2nd non-working Toaplan PCB I bought, so I decided to get the MD version instead. At least it´s 6 years younger, so hopefully it won´t die as soon as a PCB would. And it´s got the extra mode included which is not present in the PCB version, it´s got an arrange soundtrack, autofire, stereo sound, for a Toaplan fanboy like me it´s totally worth the money.
Actually, I think I bought the MD just to play more Toaplan games already, so after having the rest of the lot, it was just a matter of time, and then I sold a lot of junk I really didn´t need anymore to finally buy Slapfight.

Wasn't there some thing about Tengen using cheap ROMs for their Megadrive games, that die after a while?

Alas, maybe even your home-Toaplans aren't so safe either.

of course there is no such thing as safety. Who knows, my flat could burn down tomorrow. But I think for now MD cartridges are still considerably safer than PCBs from the 80s. The first Flying Shark PCB I bought last year was having problems simply due to its size: being mounted on its corners, the thing just wasn´t stable enough to support its weight, so it was getting concave while mounted horizontally, losing contact at some points because the contacts wear out over time, too.

Another thing is that dust can get into the sound potentiometer very easily, so you get a "scratchy" sound. I´ve seen this happen on late 90s PCBs already, so of course 80s games are even more likely to suffer from this. MD cartridges don´t even have a sound poti (the MD model 1 itself has, though).

You are right about this, if it is a little larger, it would be a two decker. I had once mount PCB legs on it (you should mount five, one at the centre. :o ), but then removed them since it seems that those legs could bearly support its weight. I let it just lay on the floor (Currently on top of my Progear's case.) when I connect it to the RGB monitor.

If that is due to the bad contact within the potentiometer, that's easy fix. :o Just dissolder it and replace it with a new one. It should take another ten years for the dust to get in again. :x

Nothing beat Full Screen Tate mode with Low Res RGB from the actual PCB. :)
