Gleylancer Reprint

Post by Stevens »

Never played it but I know it goes for drug money. Some company is doing a reprint:

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/0 ... ap_reprint

Figured at least one person here might be interested.
My lord, I have come for you.

Pre-order is up on Amazon JP if anyone is interested.

You would like to think with this reprint that maybe the price would fall on the original :?: :?:

Tempted; only ever bought it on wii.
Nice to see it done properly, nicer if price was a smidge lower, or there was some kind of extra documentation/retrospective.
Old cover is better - less is certainly more in this case.

Depends what you consider the actual price - might help cap the 'good' prices around $200/£200... But no falls I don't think. Over time will go up. It's just a good rare game, and that makes it collectable. And if something is super minty; the extra attention might even make the top end more collectable as an antique.

Plus there's been bootleg + sd card readers for years for those that just wanted to play on hardware; this is just an official version of that, hence why it'd be kind of nice to get a little retrospective/extra along with it, bit of art, an interview or two in a booklet; something cheap to include/make, but helps with the link back to the original creators/owners which is really the basis for any feel good buy in... I've probably just talked myself out of it unless they do something like this...

I tried using a Japanese proxy purchasing service (buyee.jp) and that didn't work to get it either.

I’ve noticed that Amazon JP does this early on with some preorders, and then lifts this restriction later. I had this problem with ordering a couple of Columbus Circle’s Famicom releases too.

This is quite cool. I discovered Gleylancer on the Wii Virtual Console and loved it. I'm kinda interested in getting a physical copy.

It's really too bad you can't trust reprints to be manufactured to the correct hardware specification. Too many horror stories out there about cart slot and general console damage for me to feel good about this type of purchase.

Why bother to rerelease an already hard to get game in very limited quantities, this puzzles me.

Sold out everywhere. I just got a stock notification for one of the import sites and it was already sold out by the time I got there too. :(

Hopefully they will release this in larger numbers if the demand is there.

Would like to see Snow Bros get a re-release as well :D

This is good news. Let's hope PA does not cancel orders because allocations may be limited. That would be great if they secured a quantity of these from the manufacturer.

And sold out everywhere now. I suspect the world supply is gone now. Sad for such an excellent game to get such a small reprint run.

Save your money. :)
This guy's stuff is actually really good in case anyone wants a copy and doesn't mind a repro.

Managed to get my pre-order in yesterday. Not usually a big fan of these kind of reprints...but I always regretted selling my copy (along with my other MD stuff) many years ago. Re-buying some of my favourites this past year has been a painfully expensive experience

Very strange launch, though. If the 2500 print run is true, surely it's immediately rarer than the original game itself?

Really? Almost every Masaya game has art like that. It's a bit like Langrisser.

It looks awful to me. If they really wanted to have anime girls on it, I'd rather they go more 80's/early 90's style.
This is not a style of anime I like whatsoever.

I'd like something more like this.

Or more in line with Gleylancer's back cover art, minus the enormous head.

Exactly what I thought. The original will always be the sought after item it is, but a reissue like that has the real flavour in it. I hope the paper materials will be good. Some bonuses would have been great inside the box.
Did anyone find out what was the Amazon bonus item ? A wallpaper for PC and phone ?

And as an official product (even though not licensed by SEGA, how could that be anyway, on a no longer supported hardware of their catalogue...), it cannot be compared to opportunistic bootleggers items you can find on the net. $40 for a repro, you must be kidding... Who could be satisfied to buy that and add it to its "collection" ??? Unless you build a bootleg collection... (do some people do that ???). There is no craftsmanship in those, not like a PCB or a toy... Just LAME photocopy work.

And I'm one of those who like the cover a lot. The game itself is known for its massive anime style panels within the game, which was not so common on cartridge games at the time.
So I find it fits the game really well.

Funny thing about the new art is that the red haired girl almost looks like she's holding a model spacecraft in her hand.
