Hoagtech's Sharp x68000 flash game reviews.

Post by Hoagtech »

I am playing the sharp x68000 XVI.

I spent time scribbling one line notes and numbered reviews ratings from 1-10 so I can start understanding the different titles that exist on the sharp X68000.

I have transferred the pen ink to text with all errors in tact. I went by alphabetical order from my games 1 , 2 , 3 folder on my CF. Starting with Games 1 A-G

Enjoy.

Genre is wrong. Chelnov isn't a Runner, it's an Atomic Runner. ;)

Thanks for the reviews. I didn't know there was a Frogger port to X68000.

Whats with the poor Bosconian review? Its Bosconian, it plays as it should. And the arranged soundtrack is one of the best on the system. Some of the best FM ever.

Also Gradius does not run in 480i. If you want to see 480i try Syvalion, it uses interlaced for the menu and cutscenes, progressive during stages.

Atomic Robo Kid is not a game for everyone, but the best home port with really nice MT-32 tunes.

Full Throttle is an ok port of a crap game. Controls should be fine though if you are playing at 10mhz. It has issues on anything faster.

I replayed it (Bosconian) and found it was responsive to controls. I just don't prefer the classic game type and I didn't like it.

Full throttle will be moved to the RIP list.

Atomic Robo Kid was alright and had great graphics. I just didn't like how the enemies appeared from all directions and swerved at you from a close proximity.

*For the next couple reviews I have invited my brother to share his cliffnotes.

Also @brianc Shelnov was fun but not enough tactic for gameplay available.

Granada has music. Both FM abd MT-32. Its very speed sensitive, music glitches out if run faster then 10mhz. Libble Rabble came with a special dual d-pad controller in the box. Pretty nuch required to play.

Thanks you so much for noticing the MHz compatibility.

I had no idea and just had it cranked on 16mhz because more = better

I will have to go back and check my RIP pile on 10 mhz.

***///Update: Granada score change and Libble Rabble moved to RIP.

Prince of Persia also runs at a highly inconsistent framerate on a 16 MHz machine. On a 10 MHz machine it simply feels slow.

Pop is an odd one. Its one of the few games that runs better if you force it to use the 68881 FPU.

Half of the games on that list use analog (mouse, trackball, cyberstick) controls. Afterburner2 with the cyberstick is the most playable homeport imo. Crazy Climber collection is also meant for the dual d-pad Libble Rabble controller. Cameltry came with a device to turn the mouse into a paddle.
