Yeah, this kid and I in elementary destroyed a VHS tape rewinding and pausing that shower scene a million times.

Caught (1996) - Robert M. Young
(re-watch)

Second time around with this one. Saw it some 20 years ago but it stuck with me.
I've seen it described as a steamy drama, an indie and so on.

I came back to it, for Ed Olmos.

From that initial viewing, I pretty much remembered every scene, all these years later, such is the honesty of his performance here.
Having watched it again, it's certainly not his flashiest role but I think, for me at least, it's his best.

The rest of the cast also put in the work here.

The film overall, is perhaps a love it or hate it affair.

I thought It had one of the most perfect opening shots, featuring an inspired composition and playing by Chris Botti.
Certainly sets the correct tone for the rest of the film. Enjoy; https://youtu.be/7Twbama2fA8

Recommended.

Godfather's Daughter Mafia Blues
Confusing title, but the action is good in this. Plot kinda sucks, but hey, you're just watching for the awesome action as it is.

Mafia! (1998) is pretty funny IIRC. Haven't seen it since it was new though.

I find it funny enough. Made me understand why old people drink so much prune juice.

That hair pin scene is brilliant too.

BlacKkKlansman (2018)
I thought it was a comedy, like the Chapelle skit. I was wrong.

Accident Man (2018)

Movie based on a UK comic book. Violent and fun, some wacky characters there. Scott Adkins acts better than I thought

Fyre

Documentary on the shit show Fyre Festival which crashed and burned (puntastically). I remember as this shit went down. The Burning Man online circles I'm in were having an absolute hay day. You'd think it's quite simple, but fucking hell, what a disaster. It was highly entertaining, yet painful.

Leave Her to Heaven (1945)
Dreamy and beautiful looking movie. Gene Tierney was a lovely actress with a very sad life. :(

Just came back from Dragon Ball Super Broli

Reviews were hyping it's animation so much that I thought it would be super fluid. It's good but nothing special.
The 41 years ago Saiyajin story recap was decent storytelling for Dragon Ball standards, the character theme songs during the fights were corny, also some funny moments... I could not keep up with the final fight since there were so much colors, effects, cuts. I'm satisfied overall, however

The Wizard of Lies. Pretty good performances, but it doesn't really shed any new insight into the life of Bernie Madoff. It's alright, but I didn't really learn anything that I didn't already know.
There was a time, in the era of great chaos, when the Earth and the moon were at war with each other. A daredevil from the moon piloted a bizarre aircraft. It was feared, and because of its shape, called... Einhander.

I plan to check it out. Gene Tierney in color! I'm surprised you didn't mention Vincent Prince. Ray Collins and Daryl Hickman (brother of Dwyane Hickman from Dobie Gillis) are in it too.

Vincent's was a short, but powerful delivery of good acting.

Saw The Kid Who Would Be King because I didn't want to end January empty-handed. It was a pretty good movie, especially since I'm a fan of the Arthurian Legend.

Huston, we might have a John here

Well done.
Now that you conquered kids mode, maybe you could migrate to The Man Who Would Be King, for a higher level of challenge.
Gotta warn you though: some call it a classic. So calling it old spit might not cut it here. And there are no Lv 15 wizards in this.

Pale Rider (1985)
Nice Western with Clint Eastwood. Seems to be pretty acclaimed by critics, but I found it to be a bit plain. That doesn't it isn't worth watching. The late Chris Penn and Richard Kiel appear too.

3:10 to Yuma (2007)
Interesting recent Western! Christian Bale plays a poor farmer, who ends up escorting outlaw Ben Wade, played by Russell Crowe, to Yuma Territorial Prison. Shit happens along the way.

Seppuku (1962) - Masaki Kobayashi

Finally got around to watching this.
High drama and excellent story.
Touches of ham but forgivable, as it is unashamedly and beautifully theatrical.
The walk through the graveyard, to the final windswept duel, was epic stuff.

Tatsuya Nakadai, in the main role, reminds me why Kagemusha (1980) is my favourite of Kurosawa's films;

I have had Kobayashi's follow-up to this, Kwaidan (1964), on my to-watch list forever.
Looking forward to it even more, now.

Holy shit. The acting, the story. I don't care for figure skating, but this was a ride.

Roma

Amazing. Every scene framed to perfection. If you ever share a photo you want people to give a shit about, you'd do well to take this all in and see how space is used. Long cuts filled with mayhem... filmed in glorious medium format monochrome film. And I watched it on fucking Netflix. :?

Shurayukihime / Lady Snowblood (1973)

Pretty good shit. Not exempt from some bad choices - one score could have been from a cop show airing around the same time, and one scene was almost a montage. But, if you can forgive that, it's quite rewarding. Some cool fights, although a couple had some weak sword dodges as well. Overall, really liked it. Subtitles were a bit fucked, but oh well.

The Criterion release then. Surprised to hear the subs are bad, usually they are on point.
