Must be related with The Mouse owning the name.

The precursor of Twelve Monkeys as many people know. Quite interesting, as it's more of a photo novel than anything. Some moving photography, although of course not every shot is awe inspiring (just like not ever scene in a film is). Short and sweet at 28 minutes. I really enjoyed it.

The Conversation (1974)
Did Gene Hackman ever have a full head of hair? I think this is considered similar tier as The French Connection for him. Quite enjoyable, but quite a bit slower than I would have hoped for. That white ribbed sweater on a young Harrison Ford was pretty groovy.
Quality viewing.
Re. La Jetee(1962) ; When I saw Pitt, in Twelve Monkeys (1995), it all of a sudden struck me how much "The Woman" in La Jetee, looked like Gwyneth Paltrow.
It gave the rather odd sensation, of "remembering" someone before they actually existed. Time travel, man. Can you dig it?!

Image

I've wondered if Gilliam noticed that, or if perhaps he had used the Pitt/Paltrow power couple vibe, to add to the romantic melancholy of Twelve Monkeys.
Kind of like what Kubrick did later in ' 99, with the public consciousness mindfuck, Cruise/Kidman aspect of Eyes Wide Shut.

Altered (2006) - Eduardo Sánchez
Low budget, Alien abduction film, with a twist.
Worth a watch, if you like this sort of stuff.

And as I realised this was the same Eduardo Sánchez as he of The Blair Witch Project (1999) fame, I re-watched his Lovely Molly (2011).
I find this quite an effective horror. Serious ill-ease, throughout.
Recommended. (again, if you like this type of thing)

I highly recommend one of the director's later movies: the Big Combo. Everything in that movie just oozes style, from the music to the photography to the acting. That and Gun Crazy are two of my favorites.

Rather good.

Incredibles 2

Disappointing for large periods. Was saved by the last half.

Red Sun (1971)
Charles Bronson and Toshiro Mifune chase after Alain Delon with a bitchy Ursula Andress. Less awesome than it sounds, but still worth a watch.

interesting take. They do have some qualities.

How did you rate 12 monkeys? Have always been quite a fan. Really no excuse for me waiting so long on the source material.

Saw it long after seeing La Jetee, so was spoiled going in.
I do like Gilliam and was perhaps too forgiving with his take but liked it way more than I had expected to.
Gilliam tried hard for the melancholy ending but again, La Jetee.

The impact of the original, overshadowed it for me.
That is a work of art, the denouement of which, is a frozen, split second of life, love, death and everything in between.
Remarkable.

Yeah, probably hard to go in unbiased in that case. I do like Gilliam's bleak ending but as you said, hard to live up to the original. Also, who the fuck thinks up this stuff in 1962? I guess good Scifi in those days existed, but is overshadowed by most mainstream stuff that we know of today. There's some good mid-century Japanese sci-fi literature that's never made it out translated, for shame. Guess these are good examples of being rewarded for digging.

While I have you here, any thoughts on Sans Soleil? It is a double feature w/ La Jatee on Blu Ray. I must say, the trailer has my interest piqued for obvious reasons. Just added it to the Xmas list. Maybe the fat man will bring it to me this year.

I figure as such, but I didn't expect Brian Henson to sink so far compared to his previous movies like Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island, though the Muppets weren't quite the same without Jim Henson.

At a glance, it looks like it could have inspired David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas?

I think I will put it on my list, also.

Pitch Perfect 3: **

It's a time-honored Hollywood tradition to take any moderately successful film, completely run it into the ground with an unnecessary sequel, and then if that doesn't completely bomb keep shoveling for as long as they can get away with it for (See also: Rocky IV and Rocky V, Smokey and the Bandit 3, the entire Scary Movie series, Despicable Me 3 / Minions, half a zillion other examples). The first of these was a reasonably entertaining "Exceeds low expectations" movie. The second one ran the formula completely into the ground. And then you get this one. Not completely terrible (at least some of the singing was reasonably good) but the whole "commentator" schtick is just nails-on-chalkboard irritating by now, they spoiled the climax of the movie in the trailers (and then if you missed it there they spoiled it again in the first 2 minutes of the film) and whoever it was that decided they could make Rebel Wilson an action hero was probably smoking something at the time.

Didn't completely bomb at the box office, so I'm sure someone's going to keep milking this one for another movie or two.

The Big Gundown (1967)
Amazingly good Spaghetti Western by Sergio Sollima, with a score by Ennio Morricone, and starring Lee Van Cleef, well worth watching!

That's definitely a good example. I watched the first movie not too long ago, but man they sure milked that one for all it's worth. I never knew until I watched it that the original film was rated R, but that's pretty much par for the course in the Eighties. You go from R-rated film to PG-13 rated sequels, to a live action TV show and eventually a cartoon that ran at 3pm on weekdays (complete with all the requisite toys), although not necessarily in that order. In modern times you can also typically add the franchise reboot movie with inevitable mediocre box office that typically kills the franchise off for good.

RoboCop is pretty much a textbook example of this as well. It went from an R-rated film (89% Rotten Tomatoes) to a cartoon series (with toys) within a year, and then a second R-rated film (31% RT), several different TV series, and a PG-13 rated bomb of a third film (3% RT) and eventually faded out after another obscure cartoon series. And then there's the 2014 reboot movie (49% RT) that tried and most likely failed to get the franchise back off the ground.

Grew up in the same town as Steve Guttenburg. Also Police Academy III was the first movie I ever rented. That and American Ninja.

Foxcatcher (2014) - Bennett Miller

The John du Pont Wrestling Team, fiasco.

Bennett Miller obviously put a lot of work into this.
Not a comfortable watch ("Team Foxcatcher" . . . Goddamn!) Steve Carell is suitably creepy.

I think the athletes get off a little lightly in the film,
The Shultz brothers and the other "favourites" at Foxcatcher Farm, knew what they were doing. It would be naive to think that du Pont was the one doing all the controlling.

Overall, I found it entertaining enough.

Understatement of the year. Having lived under a rock I actually didn't know the whole story going in. Googled the shit out of that guy when it was over. What a fucking weirdo. Makes you never want to call anyone Coach again. Or dudes that drive vans with curtains maybe.

Actually, surprisingly funny. I was pleased that I took the time to watch it, although it was a bit "sanitized" by Delta Airlines when I watched it. Still quite funny. Better than average comedy to me, anyway.

They Came Together

Super-weird comedy that gave me a couple of good laughs still. It feels like The Naked Gun (Zucker, Zucker, Abrahams style gags throughout) in a modern rom-com setting. It has a cast filled to the brim with familiar faces.

I don't know why it took me so long to watch the original Dark Water but I'm so glad I did. Such atmosphere, great cinematography, likeable actors, & serious tension. I actually got scared & I already knew the story from watching the remake back when.

Goes in my top 10 J-Horror, of course.

Dredd
Too short, too much style over substance and ma-ma character was poorly acted. Not a completely horrible movie as the action is quite well done but other than that, nothing amazing.
