Arcade 1Up Cabinets
Arcade 1Up Cabinets
I didn't see a thread on these cabinets.
Anyone interested in these?
I checked the links and there is a video of the build.
I wonder if it could be modded rather than start a build from scratch.
https://www.arcade1up.com/
MSRP is $399 but walmart has preorder for $299
Here is an example:

Re: Arcade 1Up Cabinets
it's a big wooden box with an lcd and some sticks, i don't see why you wouldn't be able to mod it? They seem pretty nice though, i like the smaller formfactor too. I was looking at the centipede one but i don't like the way the sideart cuts off at the smaller top end.
Re: Arcade 1Up Cabinets
Might be interesting depending on the hardware used and how hackable they are. I'm also curious about the screen quality. Going by the price though my guess is these things are going to look, sound and feel cheap. That said, I'm willing to eat my words if they happen to turn out great.
Re: Arcade 1Up Cabinets
dope concept if it could fit a CRT and was high quality
also sold at Wal-Mart
For a long time I've wanted to make a Nintendo upright woody mixed with a candy cab--basically real control panel, real marquee, real bezel, nintendo speaker grill, and asahi-seiko coinmechs, but sitdown small formfactor

Re: Arcade 1Up Cabinets
on these cabinets, specifically the asteroids and centipede ones, has anyone figured out yet how to replace the controls with Happ parts yet? I hear the original controls stink.
the encoding on the happ spinner is different from what it is set up for. if you replace it with a happ part it moves too fast.
walmart is running a special on the asteroids one right now for $199, but i wouldnt consider it if the controls cant be replaced.

Anything like this, the controls can be replaced, it's more a question of how difficult it's going to be. What skills do you have?
If anyone has gone too far down this path yet, the info is more likely to be over at SRK Tech Talk.

Re: Arcade 1Up Cabinets
Apparently, there is a huge issue with build quality on these. I.e. Paper thin wood, too light, break easily etc.
Plus, it's poor quality emulation.... so the electronics are junk.
Maybe the money is better spent on a bartop kit or a full size cab. I like good value but paying a low price because it's low quality doesn't qualify.

Re: Arcade 1Up Cabinets
I heard that some games on the arcade 1up cabinets are running using the same version of MAME Mame4Droid uses.

There is too much to be repaired with these.
They're awful.
You'd be better off making one from scratch if you can go without the decals.
They're just a box with curvy edges.
If you want to go the SUPER simple router there is the single sheet "Vigolix".

All you need is a jigsaw and straight-edge to cut the pieces out.
You can get by with a Pi for early games but it falls apart when you get towards mid 90's emulation.
Shove a second hand PC in there if you're serious about anything Cave.

Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.
