Battle Garegga patches

Post by zakk »

I just made some Garegga patches to make my life easier, and I figured I'd put them up in case anyone else might find them useful.

You can download from here: http://bigcore.rsdio.com/zakk/replay/?p=98
These are IPS patches, not full program roms!

Pasted description for the lazy
Changes:

1. Mahou characters are unlocked. No more konami code every credit!
2. Rank no longer gets worse with every game played. You won’t have to reset your board after a bunch of consecutive plays to restore default rank

One note: since I’m lazy I took the easy way out for getting around the ROM checks. They always say ‘OK’ even if whatever it’s testing is totally screwed up. I couldn’t find where the ROM0 signature was (I found ROM1) and I got tired of looking at it; so I punted.
At least one of these can already be accomplished via MAME cheat.dat, but that's not useful to those of us with real hardware. I've verified the roms work on my PCB and MAME.

So what Roms on a real Battle Garegga PCB would have to reburned in order for the new hacks to take effect?

And would the hacks work on any region version of BG PCB or is it pertaining to just the original Japanese region PCB only?

prg0.bin and prg1.bin

The patches are for the original Japanese roms. There's a slim chance they may apply to other regions, but I haven't tested it.

I see. In that case, I'd have to get my China region Battle Garegga PCB reburned as a JPN region version in order for these cool hacks to work. ^_~

Thanks again for the clairafication...

Splendid effort, may I ask what the CRC32 of the original ROM's are supposed to be ?

Thanks again for doing this!
How about Batrider 'zero rank at powerup' for the next project? :)

For zakk,

Thanks for the awesome work on the Garegga ROM patches. With such a patch, it ain't a "plain vanilla" (umodded) Garegga PCB anymore. ^_~

Count me with sven666 for a "no-rank" Batrider EPRom...there are bound to be some other fellow Batrider PCB owners who feel the same way. ^_~

Zero rank Batrider would be another excellent piece of work.

Batrider sane rank on game start shouldn't be that bad to do. I've got a few other things taking up my time right now, but I'll get to it soon-ish.

Btw, you can 'reset' the rank by going into the test menu and exiting it. Still somewhat of a pain in the ass, but much better than waiting 30 minutes.

I've finally managed to get a Garegga PCB but don't have a ROM burner. Would anyone please be able to provide a set of patched ROMs, as these look great?

I made a slight revision, the GitHub repo and the download site are updated.

Changes:
Rank display is adjusted when in Harder/Special/Extended mode so as not to overwrite the mode indicator on screen.
I hijacked the "Stage Edit" dip switch so it enables/disables the custom hud (autofire and rank related displays).
The default for that dip switch is OFF. So if you want fancy rank display, be sure to flip it to on.
You can still access stage edit mode by starting a credit while holding the C button.

If you forget to flip the dip switch on, you can do it in the middle of a credit and it will immediately start to display the HUD, no reset needed.
