I think Bain Capital had more to do with the death of Toys 'R Us.xxx1993 wrote:I’m serious. Maybe because his health was failing that this was probably one of the reasons why it closed down... I know certain things that end prematurely when their creators die.

Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.
An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.
Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Never got around to Kaguya, despite it's theatrical run just before my exodus. I will admit, I'm surprised that your entry was somewhat mainstream.xxx1993 wrote:https://twitter.com/GWOtaku/status/981993943528345601

I refuse to watch Grave of the Fireflies at all, though, because I often have a low tolerance for sad movies.

Most people tend to watch Full Metal Jacket for Hartman.
Re: The Shmups.com Dead Pool *now accepting tragedies from 2
Damn, too young. He was actually superb for someone with no formal acting chops, I liked him in everything. He was good in Seven too.
That is absolutely not a fact. Most people watch Full Metal Jacket because it's a great movie.xxx1993 wrote:Most people tend to watch Full Metal Jacket for Hartman.

Milos Forman died a couple of days ago. Interesting filmmaker.

Still, Ermey was a bit of a twat. I remember he posted a picture of himself with a dead lion he killed. Nutbag.

Yes, it's a really good film. I like the second half as much as the first. Really weird movie. The opening is pretty memorable though, hits you like a hammer. The sniper part at the end is fantastic. I remember when I first saw it thinkingSkykid wrote:That is absolutely not a fact. Spoiler
that films always do this dumb thing of having characters hide behind a wall when they would clearly be seen. Not in this. Just as that thought occurred Cowboy gets shot and there is a brilliant zoom past him, through a broken piece of building up to the sniper way off in the distance. Amazing.
Re: The Shmups.com Dead Pool *now accepting tragedies from 2
The entire movie is great, but I'll gladly admit that if it wasn't for the first half of it with Ermey's performance at the center (or rather, him along with Vincent D'onofrio), I wouldn't consider it the timeless masterpiece that I do today. Several individual scenes from the movie are some of the best I have ever scenes, and all of them feature him.Skykid wrote:That is absolutely not a fact. I would primarily credit the excellence of the movie to Stanley Cubrick, but it definitely wouldn't be the same without Ermey.

To be honest, I'm not one of those people that watch Full Metal Jacket for Hartman. I watch the entire movie from start to end.Skykid wrote:Damn, too young. He was actually superb for someone with no formal acting chops, I liked him in everything. He was good in Seven too.

It wouldn't surprise me. Speaking from personal experience, I have seen many times in elderly couples that have been married a long time, that the death of one leads to the death of other not long after. Hard to adjust to life without your spouse of 50+ years, you know?

Burning Man founder Larry Harvey died today, after suffering a stroke April 4th.
I can only imagine the mementos and memorials that will be at the burn this year.
