I already said it, but I say it again, it does not counterstop there. If it counterstops at 99,999,990, we do not know. That's probably the real counterstop.

That means we also do not know when WTN reached 10 million and if he stopped the credit immediately in stage 7-2. Maybe he got it even earlier and kept playing for a bit. We remain agnostic on this.

I was curious, so I decided to check. It doesn't counterstop at 99,999,990.

Legend says that someone's still working on 999,999,990.

Thanks for the information! In that case, the player from the aforementioned picture must've gotten precisely 9,999,990 points on purpose before terminating the credit, leaving it with a neat number. I erroneously figured this would be the counterstop since some Toaplan games do indeed end around that mark.

Why in the world would they that (not to mention that seems like something very easy to screw up) that instead of getting 10M+? Almost makes me think the score is fake.

Amazing. I am always sad when a milestone is hit without a video - I just want to know how.

I don't know if he can give you a video, but I don't think it would be a bad idea to just ask him on Twitter whatever it is that you're curious about the run. I've met him and he's a really nice guy with knowledge of the western scene.

Craziest thing about that score is he only started shmupping in 2013 with the 360 version of Desthsmiles. He said he plays at least one credit a day after work. Really shows you what can be done from sticking with a game regularly for a long time.

Thing is, he has already released a replay showing all of his strategies. So we all know how to get that score. Check out the replay topic.

Does anyone know the defaults for ASO, or at least whatever settings are used in Japanese arcades? MAME just turns all the gameplay-related dips off (difficulty 1 instead of the industry standard difficulty 2), and the only real source on this stuff has no idea. Are there any arcades that even run this game anymore...?

If you look at SPE's previous replay, it's probably the same techniques. One thing that really stands out is that SPE is powering up in the later stage. Most players will collect the suicide bullets and max out the counters till the end without ever going into power up (look at the official DVD to see what I mean), but SPE is doing the exact opposite by powering up and refilling the counter throughout the later stages.
Another thing that stands out is that SPE is doing a REALLY fantastic job in collecting the suicide bullets.

I've got that DVD and I always thought 'is that really the most lucrative way to do it?'.

owarabi got a counterstop in Same! Same! Same! with 100.000.000 points ending in stage 13-1. The credit took around 8 hours. It was live streamed as well and you can watch the highlight: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/244903312

CYS-SAK got 3,601,800 in Strikers 99 (X-36) some weeks ago and is the first person to break the magic 3,6 barrier. However, he was playing at home, so that his score will not be submitted to JHA.

Very nice to see progress with one of the lesser-used characters in the game (aka not Koitsu)!
