The game looks a lot better than I remember from mobile videos. Did they change up the shader and models to better accomodate a higher resolution and stronger hardware?

That would make sense, seeing as it's not running on a smartphone anymore.

The mobile one isn't exactly low res, it's HD. There are however two selectable quality settings (for shader effects etc.) so the difference you see may be due to the videos being taken on the low tier.
Might still be that they modified the visuals.

Sorry, I meant a larger display size, not the resolution. I feel like the art style of Aka & Blue was created to accomodate for the visibility of small items on handheld devices. At least that's the best excuse I can think of for those exaggerated black outlines, etc.

They're touching up things they weren't fully happy with from the original release, and they're planning on adding unfinished bosses and such as well, iirc.

Here's a st1 boss side-by-side they posted, not the greatest photos but they get the point across:

Still not a big fan, but the backgrounds are definitely a lot less off-putting. The game looks better in motion, fortunately.

Looks like the cab has moved to Mikado. Wasn’t set up yet though so didn’t get a chance to play. I saw one of the staff open it up and it just looked like a pc inside (keyboard and everything).

Also looks like Super Hydorah AC will have a location test at Mikado. Wasn’t set up yet either.

The location test was only today 12-6pm.

I have played it. It's a very good game!

-Only a trial version was playable. The first two stages and only one character.
-Three button game, Shot, Bomb, Full Auto.
-Your bomb meter gradually increases as you hit enemies and collect items and maxes out at 5 - similar to DOJ's hyper system.
-A 1-bomb only has a tiny radius, while a 5-bomb clears almost all bullets in sight.
-If you release a bomb, it will only shoot to the front and cancel bullets there, so that you can still get hit at any time. Watch out!
-Using bombs is crucial for scoring and gives you high chains.
-There's also normal enemy chaining when you hit and destroy enemies. The chain counter slowly counts down and does not drop to zero immediately.
-Overall difficulty is very accessible. I was able to clear the trial version on my first go.

Thanks for the impressions.
It sounds like the mechanics still need some tweaking.

Thanks for that. My only complaint after watching the Aka footage is that the bomb seems to charge too quick, and the instant recharge seems to happen way too often. It just looks like you can bomb spam anytime the bullet count gets high. Other than that, it has the Cave-like feel that I've been missing.

scoring looks like absolute cancer if they didn't change it from the mobile version at all
survival probably isn't exactly challenging either if you can just endlessly recharge bombs to clear
far from a cave-like feel, more like a broken doujin game

Hopefully they've rebalanced the game so you can't just spam bombs every two seconds, at least in the later levels.

Thanks! A&B is looking great.

Though, at 8:24 the game crashes and goes back to Windows10

Fascinating to learn that the Exa-Arcadia platform runs off of Windows 10 OS but uses dedicated cartridges on the software side.

So not much work needed for a PC/Steam port, which is what I really hope for in the future.

From the looks of it, it's a USB stick. Look at the text on the crash-to-desktop screen.

Probably encrypted out the ass, too.

If you look close you can see it is just using a USB drive to load the game.

That's a trade show demo though, not necessarily an indication of how the released version will boot or run. Having said that, it's very unlikely it'll be a "cartridge" in the traditional sense, a usb or even (hotpluggable?) sata in some form of enclosure seems more likely. Which you could call some form of cartridge. We'll have to wait and see i guess.

Keep posting feedback, I'll let the developers know.

This version was only made in 10 days for JAEPO so it's going to be rough.

Is Type-S still a thing? If so, will it be a port of this version or its own thing?

This JUST caught my attention. Shou, any information on the Two Plumbers test?

Man I haven't considered the possibility of adding another game to the basement arcade in years. Now I'm not going to sleep tonight. Anxious for kit purchasing details for us common folk.

Funny thing is I'm now in the mood to go fire up a cab for the first time in a long while too.

Also, hey all.. long time no talk! Kinda miss this stuff.

Miss you too pal!

Shou said there will be a sign up sheet for the people who want the collector's edition kits - so we will all have a good chance of getting one.

Type-S' "reveal" was more a statement of intent than an announcement, afaik. I wouldn't expect to see Type-S until after Type-R's done, at any rate.

As we progress closer to the release, we will start preorders. Full prepayment will be required at that time. For now, we will setup a mailing list so please DM our Twitter account to get added.

Type-R will never be ported - arcade only to maximize operator income
