3 lives, Normal difficulty. Saturn version is up for debate, appears to just have more slowdown like G Darius and such though. Taito Legends 2 PC is banned.

The situation with the types and player sides is puzzling. Type-C, already a strong ship, is even stronger on 2P side, but the other types seem to behave identically. Still doing research.

Post scores in this format:

Code: Select all

TYPE
NAME - SCORE - STAGE - PLAYER SIDE - DETAILS
DETAILS should be used to note what you used to play the game; if it was a particular console or emulator (and its build/version number), or if it was a specific release/version of the game. If there are known regional differences, those versions may have their own boards.

With Gekirindan, for example, you should note whether you used "v2.3O" or "v2.3J". In MAME versions prior to 0.141u1, there was only the latter, and it was just called "Gekirindan (Japan)".

I have not played some time traveling shooter in quite some time, seeing this makes me want to boot this game up tonight. Great Taito fun.

I see from the STG Records thread that the Japanese record is over 2.3 million. Are there any videos of that? I'm wondering how it's actually possible to score over 2 million, especially after watching Smraedis's No Miss No Bomb run on YouTube, which still only ended up with 1.6 million...

So I've taken to playing this game as a chance to get another 1CC under my belt, since it has a reputation for being easier than your average DDP! If that's the case, I wonder why I can't get too far :p

Anyhoo, I've taken to playing Type-B, Anne, because I always like my straight-forward shot.

I got to stage 4, with 884,220 under my belt, before I got careless and got sniped, which more or less ended my power run. Up to that point I had been getting all the medals, even the not-so-obvious ones, like the ones in stage 2 where you have to let the midboss walk a bit before the railroad tracks to reveal some extra medals (then again, I'm sure most serious players knew that one already).

I wonder if there are any other "secret" moments like that in the game? I have the feeling there's one such moment in every stage.

Stage 1: Beating back Huge Boss at the beginning of the stage, quickly (more debris, asteroids, and a bomb carrier)
Stage 2: Waiting to kill the Midboss (more medals)
Stage 3: ???
Stage 4: ???
Stage 5: ???

So anyhoo.

TYPE 1B [ANNE]
EmperorIng - 884,220 - 4 - MAME

I'd like to have the Saturn version of the game, but I think I'd be better off settling for the Taito Legends/Memories 2 pack, since that has a nice chunk of games in it. All the same, the game seems to have little love, but I think it's a fun little thing with some really great music.

Pretty happy with this run. I killed the stage 4 boss a bit too early, and missed a couple of popcorn enemies on stage 3, other than that I got all the points I know about.

I was looking for some Gekirindan videos on Youtube and came across this. The player gets 230k for destroying the third boss, you're only supposed to get 80k. Anybody else managed that? Might be a bug exclusive to the Saturn version(?)

Not a great score, I'm sure my old Taito Legends 2 score was way higher than this.

Haven't play this in a while, but when i was younger i just killed everything quickly :)

If you have a save state, the thing which stands out to me, the player takes great care to shoot all of those green orbs that come out of the ship. Not a single one survives and leaves the screen.. they are all shot by him. Perhaps that's the trick?

I'd like to get a clear on the player 1 side later. Was mainly playing Type-B when I first tried to learn the game since I was able to consistently get the bomb in stage 1 with it. Decided to use Type C on the player 2 side out of curiosity on why there are a lot of scores submitted for it on the player 2 side. I think I could score higher with Type C (2P) since I sort of screwed up on stage 5 and had to tackle the last half of it powered down.

I don't have a good set up for taking pictures (mostly because the TV I use is pretty small).

Ah, so nostalgic... How about I return to this topic, 5+ years later!

Image

1P Type-B

EmperorIng - 1,533,200 - ALL - MAMEplus

Seeing my old post made me want to get a clear with ol' Anne. And since I have strenuously memorized the game due to TRP-STGT, I was able to have a much better go of it this time. I did stupidly lose a life in stage 4 to the spinning turrets, and all of my extra lives to the final boss, but who cares! Too bad my new all didn't make me change places, but that's less work for you to rearrange the board, eh Despatche?

For good measure, here's my tournie score:
