How do ya feel about R-Type getting an ACA release? (Switch)

Japanese conversion specialist Hamster - famous for its superb line of Neo Geo ports on the Switch eShop - has just revealed that it has gained the licence to bring some of Irem's most beloved coin-op titles to Nintendo's console.

The first game is Arcade Archives Zippy Race, which is due for release this year in Japan. Arcade Archives R-Type is also confirmed, along with Arcade Archives Front Line. There's no word on if or when these games will arrive in the west, but it will be easy enough to download them from the Japanese eShop.
I'm all for it. Hope they can get the resolution perfect.

I'd also be completely stoked if In The Hunt gets an Arcade Archives release as well.

Irem have a great back catalogue which no other re-publisher seems to care much about so yeah good work there Hamster Corp.

Lets also see a public release of Irem Beyond Kung Fu :)

It's not the game i'd enjoy playing on a small lcd, no matter how good the port. So for me personally i don't really care if it gets a port or not, but for the people that enjoy this kind of thing it's always a good thing when they (properly!) port something.

Do people use the "mobile" mode of the switch much? Not owning one myself, I was under the impression that everyone used the stationary mode hooked to a TV because of better performance.

I mean, it would be great to have R-Type right next to ACA Neo Geo Last Resort and Pulstar on my Switch, and I mainly use mine in docked mode on an HDTV.

That said, ACA releases are also on PS4 and Xbox One, so really I should've asked how people felt about having R-Type as an Arcade Archives release in on current platforms in general, not just on Switch.

I'd also prefer not to get the Xbox 360 or PS3 out to fire up R-Type Dimensions and don't own a copy of PS1 R-Types anymore.

Was looking forward to Hamster's work on R-Type and other Irem classics.

To clarify: the Japanese article does not mention R-Type at all, just that Hamster will be releasing Irem's games under their Arcade Archives line. I covered this here. Hamster have a tendency to reveal upcoming releases through their "Arcade Archiver" nicovideo livestreams before anywhere else so R-Type was probably mentioned there.

Portable is more popular than docked. According to this Nintendo report, more people use portable than docked (under "Nintendo Switch Gameplay Trends for Japan, the US, and Europe"), globally.

Now that is an interesting read, also for the other stuff gathered in there. Thank you!

I totally forgot that TurboGrafx-16 R-Type is on the Wii U Virtual Console. I was thinking of getting it until I learned the Switch is getting the real arcade version.

Also finally got around to buying Last Resort and Pulstar.
