I just took a look at the first page, and so many of the arcades I wrote about are now gone. Will update those sometime soon with a few new discoveries. I went to some shitty arcades on the island of Okinawa, but I suppose they deserves some space as well.

Whaaat? Try's retro floor was probably my single favorite arcade spot when I went to Japan around this time last year, and that's including places like Hey, Mikado and Ebisen. The game selection was just too perfect and it was never crowded (which probably explains the closing). Have you confirmed with an employee that it's gone for good? That's incredibly depressing if so :(

edit: I can't read Japanese but running google translate on their website says something about a relocation. Maybe the retro area is in a different spot? http://www.try-inc.co.jp/tower/

Doesn't say anything specifically about the retro floor, but I would assume it has moved to the new location. Those guys were always finicky. Shou knows them quite well, and when I was starting to go to Akiba less and less due to real life pounding me in the sphincter, it seemed he came back each month telling me Try had moved their PCB shop to and from the shop to the arcade. Seems like they'd have pissed away a ton of money just making up their mind. This doesn't really surprise me.

But yeah, it's never been crowded. It's a bit of a hidden gem, which is semi unfortunate, as it's quite the Akiba staple, and reminds me of a time when that part of town wasn't overcome with pedos.

I wonder if this is what's causing the flood of old Japanese PCBs on ebay at ridiculously high prices by a single JP seller (not STV)
