Hi ! Thanks a lot for sharing this. Even though it might be an emulation issue; this may deserve some attention. When you talk about the "Last red ship before the boss"; are you talking about the ship which drops the bomb ? (see: at 11:45 in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPWyYMoG0dY).
SInce your hit counter did not become crazy; there must have been "one hit" which gives a huge score; or a bug in the maximum bonus calculation. Do you remember which enemies you killed with the bomb and when exactly you used it ? Was it more at 11:43 ? 11:45 ?
Did you catch the bomb (from the red ship) IMMEDIATLY after bombing ?

Also; do you remember if your score was still increasing AFTER the last stage4 enemy (during the 3-4 seconds where we wait for the stage 4 boss, 12:03 to 12:07 in the video) ? In that case the bug would be a maximum bonus bug; and not a bug with the hits.

If you prefer to chat in another language; that is possible in French; Spanish and probably German :)

btw the counterstop score that was posted was due to playing with extends every 10m points or something
the game has no limits on lives so if you get like 550m on that setting you get another 500m from life bonus and counterstop

this is likely just a glitch that isn't related to the current WR in any way

I had been wondering about that, thanks for figuring it out. Still wonder about the 100m improvement on the record revealed earlier this year, though - that's got to be some sort of glitch/exploit.

The glitch posted here is more likely than not an emulator fluke. Getting the maximum bonus under the circumstances described is normal behavior, but the rate of increase obviously isn't. Maybe the maximum bonus multiplier got set to a bad value through an underflow or something.

Nice, updated.

Got rid of the VERSION field. I'm just gonna ignore the PS and Saturn versions like with Guwange's 360 version, if that's okay with everyone else.

I switched to the Japanese version (used to run on the International version before).
The run should have been a 400 millions, but bad play in 2-4, 2-5, 2-6.
Next time maybe !

I know this is a bad place to ask this question but I'm not sure any of the other threads are really active for this game. I'm starting to get back into shmupping regularly and decided I wanted to finally try and clear a Cave game.

My question is (hopefully) simple: What is the best/quickest type for a "beginner" to use to 2-ALL clear in DDP? Not trying to score at all, just want the clear. I'm guessing it's either C-S or C-L based on my limited research and a few hours of playing around in MAME using save states.

C-S at first seems intuitively the easiest since you have massive coverage for the stages, but the weakened laser seems like a liability against the bosses (and especially hibachi). Based on my terrible skills at this game I'm thinking maybe C-L is better for a "beginner" to try and 2-ALL this game since you can take down the bosses faster? I have ZERO goals for scoring in this game, and beyond reaching the loop requirements, my only other criteria is surviving the game.

Thanks for any help.

C-L because bosses/meaty enemies and laser speed, you will not miss C-S as it doesn't have many advantages in terms of survival.

Laser types have a higher movement speed while using the laser than shot types do. That's the main reason I prefer C-L over C-S. The laser feels more responsive in general. Even though the shot strength resets down to the minimum when you die (you lose one power level on the "primary" weapon but all power on the "secondary" weapon) I think C-L's shot is powerful enough even at minimum power.

hard to call it even that considering how much easier it is to play C-L than A-L except no one really realized it and the early dodonpachi guides straight up called it shit
A-L only really gets an advantage past 650m, before that you're just making the game way harder

Lol that is pretty embarrassing. I also can't stand the whole "western record" thing either, I'm glad they got rid of that terminology in the hall of records.

Anyway, that is quite an insane score, how long did it take you to achieve? I remember you saying it only took you 2 weeks to 2-ALL the game, which is just insanely quick. I'm trying to 2-ALL it with a shit score (C-L as well) and haven't even reached the 2nd loop in a live run yet. I have done a shit ton of save-state practice of the second loop and also against hibachi (who is a massive asshole). I probably need to get to him with 3 or 4 lives to beat him, so I have a long way to go.

around 70 hours for pure survival 2-all, then another 170 or so hours for this score?
most of it was practice and it took around 40 or 50 credits, 14 of those got a no miss no bomb second loop
around 2 months of real time from coming back to the game after 2-all
