Vanillaware love-in (Odin Sphere, Muramasa, etc.)

Anything from run & guns to modern RPGs, what else do you play?

Yeah, from what I played, I just remember the castle, and running about in that desert-type area. This looks more on par with Dragon's Crown, level of variety.

Very interested, at this point.

Odin Sphere had more environments then that. There was also the forest, lava land, the land of the dead, the snow mountain, Titania's slums, the fairy hideout, and all the boss rooms for those (and the boss rooms for the "armageddon" boss rush).

What it seems they've done here is add more backgrounds to the existing stages, and spruced up the existing stuff as well. So now each stage isn't just one repeating background for 20 minutes, but has several different environments in it. At least that's the way it looks.

hooooooly shit

this really makes my day.

there's so much going on on screen, and sometimes it becomes a bit hard to keep track of stuff(this is something all my buddies have been saying when we played the game in couch coop), so this one is REALLY gonna benefit from a bump in resolution. The OG game's native res is 720p, after all

Try playing it on Vita!

Even though the game is for sure getting a higher resolution, I'm not sure if that necessarily means more real estate for sprites and movement on screen. I think that would take a lot of re-balancing and reworking the set pieces.

Just got a new trailer and 2018 release date, though it's still tough to tell exactly how the thing plays based on the footage they've shown.

Oh, and 4K jubblies are confirmed.

It doesn't. But more pixels per character/per bg will make stuff more readeable, which will be welcomed

I wish they would make an arcade mode for Dragon's Crown, with preset equipment and skills for every character and like 3 lives or whatever. The game is fun to play, but grinding for loot is boring.

The problem is that on a pad you still need to collect screen loot using the cursor, which is arduous and annoying. On the Vita the game is at its most refined state because it's a 3 second flurry of taps to collect everything around you and move on.

4K is a nice idea for a Vanillaware game but I can't see it improving on gameplay over the original PS3 release mainly because of that looting snag. Best thing to do would be an auto collect command option that you can hit with a single press after the battle and suck everything in.

That'd be good for sure.

Also I love playing that game with buddies on the couch, so that game is a console affair for me. That's why I'll never buy it on vita

The only thing that grabs my attention there is the newly recorded soundtrack. Otherwise, I can't think of much of a reason to get this. And I really like the game.
Maybe they'll release it with some swanky packaging, like the Odin Sphere Storybook Edition had.

Anyone know if the the "Royal Package" will be coming to the West?
Also, any info if this will have English options (as in text)?

Seems 13 Sentinels is still alive, but they're going the paid demo route with it.

I did fancy Dragon's Crown, but from what I've seen it seems to be one of those type of games where you're gradually chipping away at enemy HP rather than giving them a good walloping as with Capcom brawlers, could do with a demo before laying out full price for it.

I wouldn't mind so much... but it's the first three hours of the game with save games not transferring over to the full version.

New trailer, though it's still mostly "yup, the art's still pretty" territory.

I'm gonna watch this in a sec. But my concern is it's taking forever, and then it's gonna be a damn visual novel type of game.

I hope I'm wrong. I was originally thinking it was going to have strategy gameplay with robots.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim prologue is out in Japan now. It's mostly a adventure/visual novel sort of thing, which I really like (Vanillaware's gameplay never was that special), but makes me very concerned about how well it will sell.

Weirdly enough, it seems they're also teasing a new game?

Looks like a pass.

Vanillaware's appeal to me was their art AND gameplay.

I hate games like these.

Finally an English trailer for 13 Sentinels - Aegis Rim:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_cont ... jJDsPITq6E
With so little news I was expecting this to get pushed back to 2021, so 09.08.2020 was a very pleasant surprise that got slightly less pleasant when I remembered that IGN is a US site and they write dates wrong.

Interestingly enough, the English dub is delayed, coming in a later patch.

Interested in this one. I've always been interested in Vanillaware stuff because they look so amazing, but it's a shame all they're all fighting games, and grindy, eptetive ones at that. I've never managed to finish one 'cus the repetition was so depressing. An adventure game seems like a much better fit, Interestingly my wife, who is really only in to dungeon crawlers, adventure games and simulators showed the trailer to me ranting about how great it looks, so I get the impression this will be a minor success.

I've heard the story of this is phenomenal, and the best VW game was also Tower Defense(GrimGrimoire), so I can't wait.

Just randomly bumping this to say 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is pretty great. If you like Vanillaware art, Basiscape music and sci-fi tropes then it's a pretty essential buy.

Tempted to finally play GrimGrimoire now.
