Confusing Tiger-Heli with Kyuukyoku Tiger is a crime punishable by a million papercuts and vinegar, so much vinegar.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo I actually did it :oops:

There's a good TwinBee Yahhoo! Practice Mode replay here, less than 100k under the world record: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm9344477
I haven't seen any high-scoring normal or special mode replays other than a tool-assisted run.

Also, good we're finally in the second page so it doesn't take forever to load the page whenever I click into this thread.
Plasmo wrote:I cannot thank you enough not only for your links, but also that you upload so many videos to your account. It will be very helpful.
No problem, the Nicovideo submissions I mirrored were runs I personally found interesting for which I didn't want to deal with the oddities of Nicovideo and multi-part videos. I'm particularly happy I grabbed the videos from Archer's website before those went down, though - aside from the links I've shared (PS2 Ibara V.66, Dragon Blaze Sonia) I don't know of any place the files are being hosted (better download those before someone decides to take down Mega.nz!).

A handful of stragglers for now. There're many mediocre/meagre Taito shmups left, such as Master of Weapon, Chuka Taisen or Insector X. I find it hard to believe my videos are the ones with the highest scores outside of TAS, but couldn't find anything so far. Some fan of the Darius series could check some videos for the first two games and Extra, perhaps the various uploads on Replay Burners are indeed the best on that topic. Also still no luck in finding anything worthwhile regarding Daisenpuu or Hellfire. Likewise nothing for Heavy Unit outside of the possible TAS and my paltry 1-ALL, would also be interested if there is some strong Galaga '88 scoring video anywhere.

Suggestion: It would be great to have a column for each entry showing what percentage of the world record the linked replay reaches (e.g. 75% of the WR), and/or coloring similar to what the Hall of Records thread does for comparing world vs. community records. That'd make it easy to gauge the quality of the runs and identify where we are most lacking. I do realize that would be a lot of work to set up and maintain, though, so your choice. :wink:

Great work so far, by the way. Very convenient to have a single shared resource instead of the disparate playlists I have in my head and spread across different websites, and I've already learned of a good number of replays that I had never seen before.

Thank you, added! I didn't search through bilibili that much, so if someone uses that site more often, please tell me if you can find any better replays.

I have also added the three Shikigami games for which not too many good replays are available. However, I have found a Kuga replay for Shiki 2 that beats the WR. Phenomenal stuff, check it out!

I was thinking about this myself already, but I am still kinda reserved for various reasons. In general though, I tend not to include really bad replays, so there is a certain standard you can expect from the entries in the list.

I will keep that in mind. Thank you!

I had vids of the Raiden Fighers DVD that someone ripped and decided to try vid.me . Apparently there's upload limits: a weekly file size of 3 GB and a duration limit of 30 minutes. I decided to split the video but I guess I could've cut the credits out...

A handful more, some of those (Sengoku Ace and Sonic Wings in particular) are quite great. I've decided to mention the Replay Burners Daisenpuu video - it has a low score due to the player stopping after one loop, but I would imagine this is how you would play for the rest of the duration, the gameplay itself is impeccable.

I have one question regarding Gemini Wing. I know that the game was played on Normal difficulty during the STGT, is that what is generally selected for competitive purposes? You can gain a lot more points if you increase the difficulty, and at least on the MAME builds I've seen, the game is set to Easy by default. Might be a good idea to mention the difficulty in any case.

For what it's worth the manual lists OFF/OFF as "Normal" rather than the "Easy" that it's called in MAME. I'm not sure why the setting above that was used for STGT; I assume trap15 would know since it was his tourney.

Some games are a bit of mystery with their difficulty settings, anyway, NMK's Black Heart for example is apparently played on the Easy mode for some reason. Maybe we should add another column for replays when they were possibly played on non-default settings, like the one Gradius IV run that starts with much more lives than normal.

I have another selection of games available - several of those replays aren't terribly impressive as far as scoring/progress is concerned, but I'd argue it's better to have something passable (especially for the bigger developers) than nothing at all, we can always substitute them with something better once/if something emerges/is discovered. Also added the TwinBee Yahhoo! practice run Shepardus mentioned earlier.

Added better scores for 1944 - The Loop Master, Crimzon Clover WI, Dragon Spirit, Dragon Saber, Phelios (world record), Viewpoint, Darius, Darius Extra. Also added the phenomenal Rayforce replay.

Thanks to Gemant and Feedbacker who have helped me out with some titles!

Also thanks again Perikles for your ongoing help! Particularly the Sengoku Ace findings are wonderful. I was not aware of these videos before.

I am very reluctant to adding the Daisenpuu video (and your Hellsinker or Gun.Smoke replays for that matter...). But then again, I cannot find anything else myself... Could you please get some more marathon 10 million scores, Perikles? Thank you in advance.

Took a peek at that, outstanding stuff. What's really interesting about this run is that TEN does not sacrifice all his lives on the final boss (which was my initial assumption) but only the last few, he repeats the entire final stage several times at first instead. I would like to know as to why that is - my only guess would be that dying repeatedly on the stage lowers the rank to a degree that makes it possible to get a double K.O. on the final boss, that bastard is insanely cheap at high rank.
Plasmo wrote:I am very reluctant to adding the Daisenpuu video (and your Hellsinker or Gun.Smoke replays for that matter...).
Understandably so. Gun.Smoke isn't a huge loss since "scoring" in that game is inextricably linked to the fact that bosses don't time out, meaning you can kill goons till the cows come home (which is not something anyone needs to see to believe), but it is a shame regarding Daisenpuu and Hellfire. You could just toss them out entirely until something more suitable arrives, I suppose, your call.

Anyway, no post without replays, right?

I scored 2.92mil in this years ago. Sadly, old version of MAME with bad audio emulation.

EDIT: Note that the replay Perikles linked seems to be missing the extra 4th stage from the full run - "Part 2/2" doesn't show anything other than a full Expert run.

Yeah, the player only presented the extra stage once, during his Expert run. I am not too familiar with the game and just assumed there was some condition he might've been unable to fulfill (or that the extra stage was exclusive to the Expert difficulty), but it seems as though he didn't want to show the same stage thrice, which is a shame for our purposes. Same with the Zed Blade replay which is missing the final stage, apparently.

Regardless, I got two counterstop videos for rather obscure games:

Comad

R=S.S. Mission
R=score & name & link R=10.000.000+α & A.K上越 & incomplete replay part 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4uDt-iXFu0 part 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfTeTBvivpw

Visco

R=Ashura Blaster
R=score & name & link R=9.999.990 & HIR & incomplete replay part 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUppbO8BtO0 part 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m85TEW8TLz0 part 3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRxkiB4H4ag

Also a minor note: "Ultimate Ecology" is below Vulgus in the opening post, should be between "Section Z" and "US Navy". :)

A better Chitta replay for Garegga (end score 16,557,790) by KET. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvrVIPJgr5c

Also the 19XX section is screwed up. WEDNESDAY replay is not Mosquito and the actual best scoring Mosquito replay is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1aiNdVNCms by KON-DOU. In addition, an incomplete Shinden replay by こいずみ/Koizumi here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QB7JbFqOsj0

Thanks as usual Perikles!

Has anyone saved the Sengoku Ace replay with Tengai? It's gone.

EDIT: Giga Wing with Isha is also gone. Anyone saved this one perhaps? It was quite rare...

It's a fucking meltdown. The channel with all the old VHS tapes has closed down. Expect many dead links of stuff you will never see again.

Dimahoo (Clover-TAC and YMN) replays GONE. Strikers 45 II (Pancake) GONE.
