CPS2 Fan replacement?

Post by TastySoil »

Hey guys,

Wondering if anyone can hook up a link to get a replacement fan for a CPS2 board? Looking for one quieter then the original if possible. Thanks!

Papst 612FL.
I did this for the Naomi 2 Mobo I have - I don't know if you have to solder for CPS2, but if you do, it's super easy.

I used that model for my CPS2 and didn't have to solder. The plug doesn't seem to fit properly, but it works fine.

Thanks, good to know. Does it seem any quieter then the OG fan?

I take the case off of fan speed controllers and use double sided tape to mount them. Then adjust them down until the fan is relatively silent but still moves a lot of air. Any 60mm fan works (15mm deep max) as a replacement.

Much, MUCH quieter! Since it's made for PCs, it has two cables that can run it at two different power levels, and on the CPS2, you can basically switch between them depending on how you plug it in, as the fan has a 3 pin switch, but the plug on the PCB has 2 pins (but as I said, it technically fits :P)
The high level is already more quiet than the original CPS2, but the low one is nearly silent. I have heard of people just disconnecting their CPS2 fans entirely, so I'm sure running this fan at a low level is more than adequate. After all, these boards were designed to run for hours upon hours inside cabinets in rooms with little airconditioning, in very warm countries.
