I felt that too. We no longer need Twin Peaks to continue. Although, the real unanswered question for me now is just what the hell am i going to watch now. It felt like finishing a book.
About Freddie, the whole "chosen by the giant to carry a great power for his destiny is to defeat evil" could be a mock, really.

Tempting, but still too soon, I guess.
I'll just forget series for a while and focus in movies and books.

+1, so true.

This video was great, I think: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0vm_Yy ... WL&index=9

I really like this guy's voice, and his recaps over the previous weeks are worth looking at if you like this video.

I watched that one yesterday -- definitely one worth watching, and I particularly enjoyed how he brought up Mike & Coop at odds in FWWM... and something that always felt a bit off: he didn't give a shit about Ronette. Dude just left her there. Gangsta...

This is a good "explanation", in the sense that it enriches the things explained rather than diminishes them (unlike most labyrinthine fan theorising, imo).

In the end the whole thing was Muad'Dib trippin on too much spice, reliving his distant schizophrenic earthling ancestor's adventures.

I think that's an absolutely fantastic version of what happened. I've been thinking these last few day if what we saw was a "good" or "bad" ending. Did Cooper succeed or is it the start of a whole new nightmare. Well, reading this it looks like the solution - yes he succeeded but at a huge cost.

The one thing I'm not sure of is the Fireman pulling Laura way from Coop as he leads her through the woods. The reaction on his face doesn't look like it was expected. I thought it was Judy who pulled her away... But it can't be because of what the Fireman says to Cooper at the very start of the series "430, Richard and Linda, two birds with one stone".

Another thing I like about the above theory is that rather than the Fireman creating Laura he chooses her because of her pain and strength. I didn't like that aspect of the show where it seemed to be taking away personal horror of her situation and making it into some preordained galactic plan... It also explains the painful sex scene between Diane and Coop. I've had a hard time with that one, as it was happening I didn't want to watch it at all. And how Cole is an ass. We get hints, pretty strong (the French girl).

I'm sticking with this for now. It shifts around a bit but mostly works.

It doesn't feel quite right in some places, but it explains more than I ever could.

I thought Cooper was trying to save Laura that day to rewrite the entire series' events, and when she vanished from his hand that Judy had taken her away.
However with that perspective nothing afterwards made any sense to me.

Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.

wow BOB wow !

I don't think there's any point trying to reach a consensus about what happened. It's supposed to be, at least in part, what you make of it, so it means different things to different people.

I think Laura was not supposed to get whisked away (even if the giant predicted it). That whole scene seems to be referencing Orpheus leading Eurydice out of the underworld. But like Orpheus, who can't resist looking back at the final moment, Cooper senses something wrong or has doubts right at the entrance to the White lodge, and in that moment of vulnerability she is lost. I don't necessarily see this as being a failure on Coop's part. Maybe what he was trying to do was just impossible.

Especially since a lot of the final episode seems to have Coop assimilating Bad-Coop into himself. He is not his usual self, and that's part of what is so scary about the episode. But even with all the trauma of what he's been through and what he's done (esp wrt diane) he decides to try everything he can to do the right thing, even though he's blind and deeply confused. That's how his good shines through despite everything.

I'm thinking maybe the "what year is it???" comment was another moment of vulnerability, but it seems to have been a chain reaction from Cooper to Carrie. Something about this was so unexpected to her - maybe she sympathizes with Cooper, maybe she realises she's not as safe with him as she thought - either way it opens her mind just a little bit; she can then just make out Sarah's call, and that's the final trigger.

But the trigger to what ?? I don't know. It seems as though Coop succeeded in stopping her murder at Leland's possessed hands. But I think the same struggle for her soul plays out in this alternate dimension. We don't see how it ends, but I think the giant was banking on Laura winning and so do I. As painful as it was, this time they face the Judy's evil on their own terms.

But does Coop make it? Well he got snagged by BOB last time. I've heard people suggest that this is supposed to suggest that the idea of Coop's goodness is just a fantasy. Like Lynch was saying "this is too good to be true". But I don't buy that because the Major makes it to the White Lodge, and he was every bit of a goody two shoes! The difference, I think, is that Coop had not confronted the darkness within him before he tried to enter the Lodge. He nurtured the good, but the bad was still there, and it came out. This time, though, he cannot ignore it - maybe he needed to prove himself in this fight with Booper in order to be worthy.

Yeah, the main thing that casts doubt on this explanation for me is that these final scenes take great pains to create the feeling that things are profoundly, unbearably wrong, and with Lynch that's usually quite straightforwardly because they are. It seems unlikely that the utterly thwarted, baffled Coop had - aha! - Actually Won.

I dont care much for those interpretations, but it is a good one. I dont take as a real explanation, rather something interesting to think about.

That's how I take all of them, and I can only assume that's what Lynch wants us to do. I've realized the guy doesn't write things concretely, even in his head. He leaves this open to not only interpretation, but also to revisit (25 years later even) to expand on in different ways.

I had the thought that maybe the Richard and Linda world was ours. It wouldn't have surprised me to have the camera pull back and reveal the crew at a certain point, much like Jodorowsky.

But this doesn't make sense because if it was our world the woman who answers the door of the Palmer house - the real owner - would use her own name ( or at least a random name) and not one with deep connections to Twin Peaks.

Damn fuck interesting though.

Did this this morning with the girlfriend. Some of the points in that article seem like quite the reach or don't line up nearly as well as they claim, but the last few minutes definitely come together perfectly.

Yeah, at some point, the article reminds me a little like that story about the Wizard of Oz being synchronized with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.
About that feeling that there is a "our world", I had that sensation from the Monica Bellucci dream. I just seemed like she was talking to Lynch, not Cole, after all, she was playing herself.

Feels good to click on this thread again. Been largely offline the last couple weeks, so decided to get started on the complete series I'd hoarded up on my HDD. Having caught up with s1/s2/FW+MP/s3, I must say:
wgogh wrote:In the end, the Return is something to rewatch and worth of the name Twin Peaks. Concurred. Image A wonderful trip with season 3 the sustained high point.

Oh yeah... shame he never got any scenes filmed (Bowie, I'm guessing you mean?), but I'm just grateful to get another season's worth of Miguel Ferrer. At first I expected he'd only be around for a couple eps.

I actually found Log Lady annoying at first, a little too on-the-nose weird, but I got hit square in muh feels by episode 15. Strong men also cry, Mr. Lebowski! ;-; At the time I wasn't even aware Catherine E. Coulson's history with Lynch went so far back, being very new to most of this.

Finished the whole thing, currently rewatching s3. Echoing many others, I'm totally cool if this is the end of the series - yet there's so much they could expand on. Good place to be.

Good gifs to pick. :)
The Mitchums, Candy, Sandy , and Mandy (of course with plenty of sandwiches) and then all the TP crew in the last scenes of episode 17... absolutely amazing.

Fuck... it's over! God damn... back to boring ass real life.

EDIT: Yeah, Bowie I believe was just too sick and busy w/ Blackstar (which of course, we should all be thankful for). The Executive Producer of the show did an AMA on Reddit and people asked. He gave his permission to use the shots from FWWM. Never sure how that licensing works... I'd always assumed the copyright holders could reuse it but I have no fucking clue actually.

I heard Bowie was busy with something regarding his band, Tin Can. Hence the fitting re-imagining in the show.
