Especially, you know, since missing a crucial detail in an article and then making a prejudiced statement would be flat out embarrassing for someone who openly preaches about other ethnicities having lower IQs.

It's a question of perspective. For anyone who has bought into the assumption of infinite growth (ie. everyone, whether they wanted to or not) then more consumption is always better. The same consumption as last year is a disaster. Less consumption is unthinkable.Again, is lack of consumption really a thing in America?fewer and fewer people have money to spend on anything but the bare essentials,
People (and organizations, governments) put money into social security, pension funds, 401Ks, etc. and expect returns. Where do returns come from? The fairy tale way to generate returns is via innovation. Alternative means include fraud, money printing, asset bubbles, tax avoidance, price gouging, wage suppression.
Re: Bush: 2017 Edition
Are you seriously using the amount of Nobel Prizes won as a measure of intelligence for a subspecies of humans, the majority of which lives on a continent with incredibly poor living conditions, incredibly poor education, widespread corruption with politicians only trying to secure a comfy life for themselves, and no culture handing down centuries of vital knowledge, examples or practices to a people who lived a tribal life in the past centuries but only started trying to emulate modern civilization around 60-100 years ago?Rob wrote:Not sure if you're kidding, but I'd be stunned if anyone with a degree in genetics believes that intelligence isn't genetic or that Mother Nature distributed the best stuff evenly to all ethnic groups out of a sense of social justice. So, you didn't bother to read the whole article, then? Didn't your superior IQ hint at the possibility that it was just a word to catch your attention? In things BryanM cares about more than the weaklings angry that other men exist (some of them *gasp* from other countries):
Miles's latest video has some excellent thoughts on the use of metrics. "When a measure becomes a target, it is no longer a good measure."
The technocrats have those numbers they use that are designed to omit important details to make themselves sound good. Like how the official federal unemployment rate doesn't count people who've given up looking for work, or the underemployed who can't make enough money to meet basic needs.
Hilariously, President Trump bashed them as unreliable measures of success when the technocrats brought it up. But as soon as he got in power, he began trotting the same numbers out as evidence of how swell everything's going.
It's such blatant cynicism. An empty pointless game no one believes in.

Illegals can get all sorts of stuff, dude. They just have to know where to go and who to talk to.Specineff wrote:Care to clarify how was he illegal if he had a work permit?
As one example, driver's licences. More than a few states decided that dealing with stolen/spoofed socials wasn't worth it anymore and decided to just let them get licenses (of course, on the full faith and assurance that they'll purchase insurance).
Here's a short read on the work permit thing. Also, tax refunds.
"Undocumented" is a weasel word that dances around the issue: without a record of citizenship, you don't need to contribute the same things to society that citizens do. Illegal immigration is illegal for a reason: it's theft.
You have nobody to blame for that but yourself. I wanted to talk about nothing but Syria for months, and you wanted to talk about anything but. Always going on about Medicare and Social Security or some shit nobody cares about when I wanted to discuss one topic (one that, admittedly, has left my support for Trump waning, though not entirely just yet).BulletMagnet wrote:While I'm here, before you go Full Quash on me and send me chasing in vain after the next shiny object
Once you made it patently clear that you weren't going to engage in any discussion past "Assad must go", I decided it wasn't worth it anymore and responded to you and others on a variety of issues.
Seriously, at least consider that for almost two years I was nearly the only voice of dissent ITT and inevitably ended up biting off more than I could chew.
Re: Bush: 2017 Edition
As for tax cuts, I have some split thoughts on the issue. On one hand, the lower corporate tax rates of other countries makes America uncompetitive in many aspects (China's sitting at 25%, US is currently at 38.9%) and it is a necessary step to repatriate both money held abroad by American companies as well as jobs. On the other hand, there's no doubting that most big companies don't give the slightest shit about actually doing either of those things. Google, for example, fancies itself a "global organization" (which becomes even more hilarious when you consider that they've been a CIA pet project since the beginning) and considers itself above such petty matters as employing citizens of the country that allowed for their success to begin with.
Basically, we need to pursue a bunch of anti-trust cases against the biggest companies in America (many of which are de-facto government or political institutions anyways) and stop with the hiring practices that are suppressing wages and contributing to citizens being under/unemployed (H1B's, hiring illegals, etc).
Small businesses though definitely need some tax relief. Maybe there's be more choices than Target or Walmart if we didn't make the barrier to entry so ridiculously high that only venture capitalists can afford to own businesses.
Oh, and someone mentioned net neutrality. This ties directly in to that. As it stands right now, NN = Google, Netflix, and co. laughing all the way to the bank. Repealing NN = Comcast laughing all the way to the bank. Whoever wins, we lose. Though if we could get Comcast's teeth out of the necks of state and local governments across the US, we wouldn't even have to worry about this, really.

Re: Bush: 2017 Edition
I even mentioned it in my previous post, yet you seem to have completely glossed over the lack of practical examples for modern civilization in most African cultures. Jews often lived as bankers and merchants because it was what their parents did to get by, who in turn passed that knowledge on to their children. The Japanese overcame the nukes with huge amounts of US aid and because Japan had some sense of infrastructure and urban planning even back then, throwing money at Africa now will only funnel that money towards corrupt politicians and druglords, but it could have helped in the past before corruption seeped in.Rob wrote:This information is important because of these resentment-fueling excuses. The Jews have overcome much persecution throughout history (you might've heard of a fairly recent event), the Japanese have overcome having their country reduced to rubble, internment camps. But slavery 150 years ago and segregated fountains 60 years ago is responsible for Chicago today. There are far more blacks in western countries than there are Jews in the world. They have access to our libraries and the best universities in the world. The bar is lower for getting into those universities.the majority of which lives on a continent with incredibly poor living conditions,
Africans would have been better off if they continued living as tribesmen without interference in the shape of foreign business interests, such as diamond mines, oil refineries, and poachers. And maybe they could naturally adapt to the rest of the world over time. The abrupt change from tribal societies to more Western societies after the colonists settled in didn't do a lot of good in terms of parents handing down knowledge to their children, it's not like you have a lot of freedom as a slave or farm worker. Especially not after the colonists left, as none of the wealth or knowledge even trickled down to the natives whose time was mostly spent on working hard enough to survive another day without getting whipped, and then you're only left with puppets and suck-ups taking the position of Great Leader, or pointless ethnic cleansing just like in the good ol' days. Without any examples or common knowledge to fall back on, and education being practically non-existent, there's not much of a future to be found here. This situation is not something (genetically) inherent to Africans.
Pertaining blacks in the West, most of them don't even have the same starting money like the Jews do. Required money to pay tuition fees, required books, and crippling student debts. That's not even factoring in the self-perpetuating culture of crime and police crackdowns after decades of discrimination, as not a lot of people feel like they should bother excelling in a world which they believe actively works against them, despite current year diversity hiring efforts. It's kind of pointless when you're not even remotely qualified to get hired in the first place, you can only lower the bar so much.
Allowing white farmers to work their lands again implies that the ensuing wealth and knowledge would automatically trickle down to the rest. Unless you actually educate the rest about the benefits of long term planning, it's not gonna happen. Mugabe is also a fucking idiot who didn't (or doesn't) realize the situation his country was in. What I meant by my original statement was that they would be instead immigrating en masse to Europe because they honestly have a better chance here than in Africa. The Zimbabwe saga:They aren't going to magically pull themselves out of the gutter, in the end they can only look towards us how to lead a better life.
Mugabe is asking back the white farmers he chased away
Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe: 'We Will Not Prosecute Killers of White Farmers'
And now in South Africa:
‘Bury them alive!’: White South Africans fear for their future as horrific farm attacks escalate
Shell and co. beg to differ. I hear China has taken some interest in Africa too.In my opinion we shouldn't be touching Africa or the Middle East. Let them succeed or fail on their own. We should not be taking in any of their people. There is no benefit for us in doing so.

Discredited decades ago but suddenly it's back in prominence! Was there some new data discovered that supports a fresh interpretation of the work?
No. It's back in prominence because we've got a Nazi-sympathizer in the White House and neo-eugenics is now politically correct, just as climate science is now politically incorrect.
Plus it doesn't hurt that the racist Mercer family of Billionaires is giving publicity to the book through their mouthpiece Breitbart. Money allows bullshit to defy gravity.
Also, here's a little tidbit from the life's story of the totally unbiased Charles Murray, author of The Bell Curve (a book that was funded by the neo-nazi Pioneer Fund). The rest of his life follows a similar trajectory:
https://shameproject.com/profile/charles-murray/In high school, at the height of the Civil Rights movement, Charles Murray burned a cross on a hill in his Iowa town, according to a New York Times profile of Murray. Murray later claimed he had no idea that his cross-burning had any racial significance.

It is a popular book disguised as a scholarly one, a one-sided presentation disguised as a balanced review, and a book about race disguised as a book about IQ. Among its conspicuous omissions is any reference to a large body of cross-cultural research that has demonstrated the culture-bound nature of cognitive achievement.

Look, Quash. The Scientist vs. the SPLC
And yet the study of man couldn’t help but attract some of the most adventurous intellects. Harpending, a country boy from the northern Appalachians, spent close to four years in Africa living with tribes of hunting Bushmen and herding Herero.
Henry fell in love with Africa. He seriously considered leaving academia to take up being a Great White Hunter safari guide so he could stay in Africa.
...
In Henry’s accounts, the Bushmen and Herero of the Kalahari Desert tended to be, as he was, cheerful, witty, insightful, and brave.
