If you don't have anything relevant or productive to say about pancakes, you really shouldn't post instead of trying to derail the topic with some completely unrelated discussion about politics.

Anyway, I'm getting the impression you're more of a waffle person, and while I could argue for the merits of waffles with their crisp exteriors betraying their fluffy interiors, and their little syrupy dimples, this is a pancake thread. Please try to stay on topic in the future

In any case, I feel we should perhaps discuss whether the type of batter used has any merit when it comes to choosing an appropriate topping.

Perhaps honey is more suitable when it comes to a whole wheat batter, while syrup is better used with buttermilk based pancakes? Discuss.

Real maple syrup is the best when you're eating them... but... I wonder... could you just use maple syrup in the batter?? Then you wouldn't have to add it later.

Agave syrup also works as a topping. Molasses, I've tried, but it might be too strong... Although it's the healthiest one.

Syrup is basically water and sugar. The process of cooking will cause the water to evaporate, meaning its scarcely any different than just adding some kind of sugar to the mix directly. Cooking bread mixed with sugar is actually done quite often; in the USA even plain freaking sliced bread you get in the supermarket is injected with corn syrup. Europeans are usually shocked by this when they experience it.

While indeed it mixes the lines between a bread and a cookie (a line our more conservative friends think should never be crossed, lest the consequences of such sin fall upon our heads), I say adding sugar to a bread mix intended for a pizza is a-ok.

Uh, pancake mix, too. And steaks. And gravy, especially soy-based gravies. Basically, sugar can make anything better.

Earlier this year a Japanese AV star drowned during a bukkake shoot. The director told everyone to continue directing semen into her mouth while she was choking as the choking was part of her performance.
