Raiden 1 & 2 OST, Composers ?

Post by rtw »

I recently bought this excellent album:

http://www.inhgroup.com/item/raiden02/

But one thing which confuses me, is who is the composer/arranger ?

On the English liner notes it says that Go Sato took over for Akira Sato and he says that he developed the music for Raiden II.

But who developed the music for Raiden DX ? And am I right in assuming that Go Sato did the arrangement for both PS versions ? Maybe the FM Towns as well ?

And it would be nice if someone could translate the story, if there is one:

http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/4499 ... kl26aj.jpg

Here are the inlay CD indexes if those are of any help:

http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/8279 ... kl35mt.jpg
http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/9592 ... kl46bf.jpg

This album is a must for all Raiden fans BTW :D

Nice - I ordered this too from coco, should be on its way.

Btw, can't help you - I'm clueless. Until reading here, I thought Akira "Go" Sato was the same guy, and "Go" was a nickname of sort!

Edit: weird, those scans you did look like the booklet comes from a DVD case (rectangular shape) but I thought Coco wrote that the case was a standard double audio cd case (square shape). :?:

btw, how's the FM Towns music? did you listen to that already?

Excellent music, you have something to look forward to!

The case is CD double audio, I just cut out the necessary bits from the scans thus making them recangular.

FM Towns is nice, it's Raiden with a more mellow mix.

Go Sato composed the arrangements. Akira Sato composed the original Raiden I tracks. Go Sato composed the original Raiden II tracks.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm still wondering about who composed Raiden DX ?

are Akira and Go related? Or it's just coincidence that they share the same family name?

I've wondered abou that for the longest. One assumption I had is that Go Sato is really a "band" of sorts lead by Akira Sato. Kind of like Capcom's Alfh Lyra or Konami's Kukeiha Club.

Raiden DX is done by Akira Sato as well. Not sure about the extra soundtracks options in the PSone port though. But the compositions have similar attributes to his work on Raiden.

Did he do the soundtrack to Raiden III? Was the music in that good? I still haven't had a chance to play it.

I can't tell you who composed the music in Raiden III, but it is horrible! Why Seibu, why!!!!

At first I didn't care for the Raiden Fighters OST's, but ever since I bought the Onslaught DVD, I've popped them in the CD player numerous times! :)

Are you sure about the music to Raiden DX ? Since Raiden DX is a deluxe version of Raiden II maybe it reuses the music of Raiden II ?

I don't thing there is any band, look here:

The second scan you gave shows Akira for "Gallantry", "Fighting Thunder", "Rough and Tumble", and "Go To Blazes!" and Go for the other two DX pieces. If there are any missing, they were probably Go.

Yes indeed it is a fantastic set 8) INH loves the fans, and draining my wallet!

Nothing about composers in there. The identical family names seem to just be a coincidence(?) To my understanding, it should be that Akira Satou composed the tracks for Raiden (1990) and did the arrangements for the FM Towns version (1991). Later, after Akira left, Gou Satou was responsible for: composing Raiden II (1993), composing and arranging tracks for Raiden DX (1994) [see below], and arranging Raiden and Raiden II's music for the Playstation Raiden Project (1995). Also composing for Viper Phase 1 and the first 2 Raiden Fighters games, but that's a bit outside of the scope of this soundtrack.

A note on how Raiden DX's music is set up: it mostly uses Raiden II's music, but there are a couple of additional songs to fit the new game system (Course Select & Ranking), and there were also a handful of Raiden tracks arranged for the new sound hardware (level location is shown on the back insert of the set).

nZero thank you for the translations and comments. I must agree that INH loves the fans and they are draining my wallet as well :D The secret lover set is beautiful! I think we are nearly there now, only questions I have left are:

What does the kanjii say on the right side of the album tracks in the following images:

http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/8279 ... kl35mt.jpg
http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/9592 ... kl46bf.jpg

And who composed the tracks 17 to 20 on the Raiden Project ? I am guessing Go Sato but it would be good to get it confirmed.

The extra tracks, 17 - 20, should be just line-in versions of disc 1 track 10, disc 1 track 15, disc 1 track 16, and disc 2 track 18.

作曲 佐藤 亜希羅 - Composed by Akira Satou

作曲 佐藤 亜希羅 - Composed by Akira Satou
編曲 佐藤 豪 - Arranged by Gou Satou

作曲 佐藤 豪 - Composed by Gou Satou

作曲 佐藤 豪 - Composed by Gou Satou
編曲 佐藤 豪 - Arranged by Gou Satou

作曲 佐藤 亜希羅 - Composed by Akira Satou
編曲 KID - Arranged by KID

作曲 佐藤 亜希羅 (10~13) - Composed by Akira Satou (10~13)
作曲 佐藤 豪 (09,14) - Composed by Gou Satou (09, 14)

I'm surprised it doesn't mention Gou Satou here, since Akira was long gone and Gou was most certainly in charge of updating the Raiden tracks for the new sound hardware used by Raiden II/Raiden DX.

nZero, you are a veritable source of information. One last question and all my wonderings will cease... well actually two :D

http://chudahs-corner.com/soundtracks/i ... =pccb00150

So this is incorrect, the composer is Go Sato ?

And finally is the name supposed to be written Sato, Satou or Satoh ?

On the booklet of the Raiden 1 & 2 it says: Akira Sato & Go Sato

Once again, thank you for all information!

Yes, I own that album. Go Sato is mentioned (in roman lettering no less) as the composer. Also, 佐藤 豪 (さとう ごう)appears in the liner notes. No mention of Akira at all.

Well, it's just various preference for romanization, as the names end in a long vowel. Akira Sato/Go Sato are probably the best. "Akira Satoh" appears in the Raiden Densetsu OSV (PCCB-00047) and "Go Sato" appears in the Raiden II OSV (PCCB-00150). ::shrug::

Thank you once again for all your help nZero. I have taken all the information and put it together on this page:

http://home.online.no/~an-tj/raiden_1_2_ost.html

LMK if something is wrong. When the arranger is the same as the composer I chose to leave the arranger section blank.
