Although goody some titles are part of the practically the one and only time they'll ever be discounted for this week only. Shame that Bullet Soul (both of them) isn't part of the sale. Since they have been now part of the BC line. (Though IIRC, they have been on sale in the past.)

SNK sale on GOG includes Twinkle Star Sprites and Blazing Star. I don't know if those ports are any good, though.

I'm not sure on Blazing Star, since no screens show how they ported it. But I know for sure that TSS on there is a copy of the Steam Version, because it has the same "Lets Start" intro screen.

I already own it for PS3 but I wonder if I should double dip. Lately I've been rebuying my Steam games on GOG because I dislike modern Valve more by the day.

Well besides the differences of seperate leaderboards and such (since the game is 100% the same), be aware that you cannot play the game offline on steam, so the one on GOG is your best bet if you're looking forward to playing it without a connection.

A bit of shameless plugging (just like last year  )

As usual, Zenohell and Zenodyne R are down to €2.49 but wait, there's something new that's off, Fire Arrow Plus is €1.24, two caravan shmups in one package. Summer Sale lasts until July 5 btw ;)

OK, which Steam ports are at least minimally competent?

Most? Cave Degica games an anything by Dotemu are the only questionable ones I know of.

Please do not ever lump Degica in with Dotemu, for any reason, in any context.

Basically, all of the CAVE ports are perfectly fine (and generally cheaper than the 360 versions anyway) unless you're so used to the 360 version that you simply can't deal. This is particularly important for the port-exclusive modes.

At least the folks at Degica are trying to fix what they can, or pushing the Cave programmers to do so. They're putting in an effort.

Dotemu on the other hand, can't be bothered to try and fix even the most simplistic of issues. They also just rerelease their shoddily-emulated games in a new package with the same (or different) problems over and over. I mean hell, they've released four versions of the Raiden Fighters games and all four releases have noticeable emulation issues and bugs, none of which have ever been fixed. All they do is add in a few easy features with a patch or two, then split. Just check out their lack of presence on the Steam forums to see how little they seem to care about the many issues people have with their compilation packages, SNK games, etc. At best, you get a "we'll look into it" before they vanish and abandon a given game.

Dariusburst CS has hit $20 in the steamsale, I can't hold off any longer. I'll do my best to stay away from the DLC. I'll probably grab Danmaku Unlimited 3 and Blue Revolver in the sale as well.

For those that prefer/need a controller, GameStop has the Pokken Tournament Pro Pad Limited Edition Controller for Nintendo Wii U for $14.97 in-store only. The gaudy Pikachu Version is $10.97. Both have a SRP of $24.99. Why you should care is that each has an outstanding d-pad. Out of the box, it feels better than my Xbox 360 wired controller's d-pad that is still too stiff despite ~100 hours of use. Windows sees the controller as a DirectInput device with the d-pad mapped to a tophat and YBAX to buttons 1-4. Nintendo Switch update version 3.0.0 recently added support for the controller in all applicable games, which is likely why it's no longer available online through GameStop.

tate, that's not really a shmup deal, that's just a controller deal, lol.

It's actually a big Japan sale on the EU PSN, so there are a few interesting offers. Caladrius Blaze is about £6.50 if I recall correctly.

Crazy good price. Can anybody tell me if the PS4 port is perfect? Any known issues?

Best deal I ever scored was a Mushihime Sama - first batch for $150 Australian years ago.

Thanks, I guess it's no use waiting for it to go on sale again. I've got Guwange when it went on sale some months ago and have been thrilled, I really liked it although it gets really rough at Stage 4.

I would buy those in a heartbeat if only there were Mac versions of them. What did you use to make those shmups?

Game Maker Studio 1.4, obviously using BPzeBanshee's GMOSSE framework however, he's in our team not only expanding the framework (the new fancy features will be eventually ported back) but he's responsible for a lot of design stuff.

We did look into porting the games to Mac using the Mac exporter but we ran into all sorts of issues with it and before we could get into it, IIRC BP's Mac died and the replacement at the time was too expensive. At least in case of Linux we know WINE has no problems handling those games.

Well, Steam's Halloween sale is live, a couple titles that fit in such as Deathsmiles, Caladrius Blaze and Trouble Witches Origin at various discounts. Some others in the genre too for less, but not all.

Blue Revolver is on sale too, if you don't have it yet and are interested in the upcoming Black Label update.
