SEGA - Road to 2020
Re: SEGA - Road to 2020
Latest buzz says this old IP thing is linked to SEGA Forever, which might be an ad supported way to play old Sega games on phones and maybe some other platforms. You can buy a game to remove the ads and enable local saves. First game to be assumed on it: Comix Zone.
Exciting stuff, yes?

OutRun and Panzer Dragoon for me.
I'd also love to see an OutRun collection. It's crimal that we never got respectable ports of Turbo or OutRunners.

Why do these companies have the most deluded ideas of which old games are "classics"? Sega with AltBeast and fucking Comix Zone over and over again. Nintendo thinking Urban Champion was worth money on any platform post-NES. What the hell?!?First game to be assumed on it: Comix Zone.

Never cared for Comix Zone.

Comix Zone's got a ton of issues, but it's pretty decent. Good graphics, cool music, gameplay is almost solid, it's just got a laundry list of baffling design choices [most immediately obvious is the need to injure yourself in many situations].bigbadboaz wrote:Why do these companies have the most deluded ideas of which old games are "classics"? Altered Beast is trash though. Very iconic game, but it's pretty shit.

Comix Zone is a fun 1CC. The self-inflicted damage from obstacles is stupid, but there are enough hidden explosives around the place to mitigate most of it.
I have the JP version though, and some people suspect that this version has been made easier so I dunno.
Never did like the music in it but the sound FX/voices are clear and have plenty of impact.

I hope they bring back the official Saturn USB controller. Those Play Sega controllers on ebay aren't the most robust...

Re: SEGA - Road to 2020
We need Sega to bring back arcades with arcade games that supersede that of your top end PC.
Its ok to bring back the games we all loved, but its got to be done with a technological edge, like that of Daytona in 1994.

Re: SEGA - Road to 2020
well that is simply never going to happen. it's just not possible any more....... the cost to produce a game which will "supercede high end pcs", not to mention to cost of inventing the hardware to make this possible is just not something that could ever work with the arcade model - especially when you consider that arcades are basically dead the world over.

I'm sure Bowling alleys and cinemas could put them back in, like they did before. There is already a host of such machines in place except they run year 2000 hardware which is not very good.Immryr wrote:well that is simply never going to happen. it's just not possible any more....... the cost to produce a game which will "supercede high end pcs", not to mention to cost of inventing the hardware to make this possible is just not something that could ever work with the arcade model - especially when you consider that arcades are basically dead the world over.

Yep. All dat money.
There's also rather diminishing returns if you put 20 graphics cards on a rack versus 5. There are things like Tensor Processing Units that'll help ya process your tensors, but that doesn't exactly improve your graphics any..
I mean, at least until they use them to solve intelligence or something.

What are those? Are they like an Amazon or a Netflix?Bowling alleys and cinemas
Re: SEGA - Road to 2020
Why would they spend $5000 on a game that doesn't bring more money in than a $500 golden tee cabinet or a $1k raw thrills turd?neorichieb1971 wrote:I'm sure Bowling alleys and cinemas could put them back in, like they did before.

I've never seen anyone actually play those though. Like, ever.
If they've got an old Hydro Thunder cab or something like that, I'll see someone on it once in a while, but that's about it.

Arcades as we know them are dead. The nail isn't in the coffin yet in Japan, but it's coming soon. Unfortunately for them it's tricky to get coin operated games into an alcohol-serving venue, unlike here in the states, which is where a lot of old arcade hardware winds up.

We need arcade machines that double as drinks and drugs dispensers, also games that tie it to the gameplay.

I've been praying for a wireless PS4 rev. The first reissue was for the PS2, after all.I hope they bring back the official Saturn USB controller. Those Play Sega controllers on ebay aren't the most robust...
Never realistically thought it could happen, but chances are actually getting better with the machine slowly trying to build a shmup audience..

Re: SEGA - Road to 2020
IF done right it would bring in more. People don't go out to arcades with old gaming hardware because its not new, its boring and at best has a little bit of nostalgic value if you go as far back as pacman, outrun or gauntlet.trap15 wrote:Why would they spend $5000 on a game that doesn't bring more money in than a $500 golden tee cabinet or a $1k raw thrills turd?neorichieb1971 wrote:I'm sure Bowling alleys and cinemas could put them back in, like they did before.

But put something in place that pits people against each other, or tag team in an environment where there is a skill involved and its really fun to play and you'll have people camping outside the place once word gets out.
Imagine a powerdrift 4 seater cabinet with 2017 graphics with a thumping soundtrack. Something quick, reflex based in a wacky world would certainly get people crowding around a cabinet much in the way they did when Atari launched Star wars, or Sega launched Outrun. Those were the days and I'd certainly like to see them back again.

Re: SEGA - Road to 2020
Arcades will never get some things you now get at home, like 4K or even 1440p. There, 1080p is where it's at for the newer games. Arcade games ported to home systems will end up looking same or better on console/PC. Tekken 7 on PC allows jacking up the resolution to 4K or 5K.Immryr wrote:well that is simply never going to happen. it's just not possible any more....... the cost to produce a game which will "supercede high end pcs", not to mention to cost of inventing the hardware to make this possible is just not something that could ever work with the arcade model - especially when you consider that arcades are basically dead the world over.
Before a Virtua Fighter 6, I'd rather see some other franchises get the dust blown off of them. Power Drift (see if Yu Suzuki is interested, maybe outsource it to him and his new studio Ys Net) & Thunder Blade could use sequels. Something like a sequel to the arcade Shinobi/Shadow Dancer probably would go straight to console.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

Just bring back SEGA AGES. Expecting SEGA Rally 4.And I made a meme about it.
BTW, some SEGA games has a high score list with 20 possible entries. Or most likely Games developed by AM2. It is that moment other companies done the same, like IGS with Dodonpachi II,Konami with Salamander 2,Taito with Night Striker,Chase Bombers, etc. and heck,Capcom with Giga Wing!
Anyways, I am also expecting the US/EU version Puyo Puyo Tetris for 3DS, same with Puyo Puyo Chronicle. It all started with this.. And also, Puyo Puyo Chronicles for Nintendo Switch. Pardon me, I am such a big Puyo Fan. If there was an English Version of Puyo Puyo Tetris, then same with Puyo Puyo Chronicle.
My cheer:AM2 Lives!

At this rate, I won’t be interested into shmups anymore. I am no longer going to be active in this forum from now on. I am more interested into Kemono Friends, rhythm games, D4DJ, Puzzle Games, Hololive, and Pretty Cure.
Farewell.
Farewell.
Re: SEGA - Road to 2020
I'm still waiting for a US release of the final 3D Classics Collection for 3DS. It was hinted at in a Miiverse forum and nothing since, not even at E3.

Yep, it's ol' PCE-FX's 7,500th post already -- never thought that I'd reach that milestone. ^_~GaijinPunch wrote:Arcades as we know them are dead. Well, Sega's already released the cool multi-player arcade racer by the name of Daytona Championship USA here in the USA & in the UK (yes, a famous revisit of the classic Daytona USA arcade racer from 1995) with the exception of being presented in glorious 1080p format + 47" LED widescreen monitors + spectator video billboard marquees + live video feed of all players currently playing + new tracks including the new Seaside Galaxy course + Party Mode upgrade as a d/l provided free of charge courtesy of Sega themselves. Plus the ability to link up to eight seperate Daytona Championship USA cabinets = priceless!
So playing the newest arcade racers at the arcades ain't dead just yet at the American arcade hangout. It's just a matter of trying to find the arcade with the latest arcade cab releases. Even some USA arcades have gotten in Namco's Maximum Tune 5 arcade racer, how cool is that?
Sure, Raw Thrills' Crusin' World cabinet with the obligatory Nintendo name attached to it + a cool video camera that captures the current player's face during start up is up and running currently at two of my local arcade hangouts.
So right there, that's three major arcade exclusive arcade racing games that have yet to be released for the current 7th generation home gaming consoles. Talk about arcade IPs exclusivity right there. I'm sure Sega paid "an arm and a leg" to get the proper rights/clearances with the famous Daytona name/trademark with their latest Daytona arcade racer sequel. It's about damn time that we got a new Daytona racing game.
Heck, even Raw Thrills' World's Largest Pac-Man/Galaga dedicated upright cabinet will set you back at a whopping $11,000 USD if bought directly from an arcade reseller/distributor. Care to see if that spent hard-earned cash will make it back profit-wise for an arcade in a few years? I think not.
Or even Raw Thrills' joint collaborative effort with Taito by releasing a dedicated sit-down cabinet of Space Invaders Frenzy with it's seriously jaw-dropping $12,000 USD price tag -- can it turn a profit in a few years time to pay for itself with a Family Entertainment Center (FEC) or traditional arcade type of setting? Of course the known answer will be no, it won't.
PC Engine Fan X! ^_~

Re: SEGA - Road to 2020
$11,000 for WL Pac-Man/Galagay? Crazy, especially when someone can stay with it for hours on a credit. I think WLPMG should've been a rerelease of Namco Classics Vol. 1 & 2, in a single cabinet. Maybe even with the arrange modes only, since these have a definite ending (e.g. Pac-Man Arrangement is cleared after 23 stages, and at most a half hour) Then throw in Galaga'88 and Pac-Mania (Pac-Mania can be set by the operator to end after a certain number of stages).
Of course, DC-USA will make back its cost. Going at $1-2 a play for what will be a 3-4 minute clear, it'd be only a matter of time. It will continue earning for years, because it's Daytona.

What's the list of arcade games released in the last ~3 years? Pokkén Tournament, Jurassic Park: The Arcade, Mario Party, and Luigi's Mansion?
Pretty ded. Just a place to promo an upcoming console game nowadays. When they can do that thing they can do in The Matrix movies, maybe they'll get an upswing.
