Where's the PC version?

Nice, I'll pick this up for sure.
Re: Raiden V: Director's Cut for PS4 to be released by UFO I
Not many details on what's new gameplay-wise, other than 2-player co-op offline. Wonder why that's offline only, did MOSS's other shmups feature online co-op? If so, did they have really bad netcode or something? I'd assume they rebalanced the game to account for the co-op.
Yeah I guess, if you're not interested in owning what's essentially a region-free 360 and have no interest in playing Natsuki Chronicle (as least for a while).Lawfer wrote:Xbox One has officially become 100% worthless.

Nope, nor is it common among shmups from other developers.Cuilan wrote:Not many details on what's new gameplay-wise, other than 2-player co-op offline. Wonder why that's offline only, did MOSS's other shmups feature online co-op?

As it should be, I'll buy it.
Of course we also need to know if the Amazon version is a real product or just a box of extras with a download code.

I dunno about that. On modern consoles at least, it's not that uncommon. I can think of plenty of shmups that have that feature.GSK wrote:Nope, nor is it common among shmups from other developers.

Forgive me for not poring through an old thread, but what was the consensus on this game anyway? Did it surpass IV?
Re: Raiden V: Director's Cut for PS4 to be released by UFO I
No it kinda sucks. Worse than the rest of the series at least.

Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun and Strania had online play on XBLA but they didn't bother to include it with the PC versions. From what I recall, Strania's netcode was pretty good but the Treasure games' netcode sucked.
e: oh, and Deathsmiles which I never tried and AFAIK is also missing online play on PC.

Shmup user review by '@Sturmvogel Prime' in case anyone missed it. Some good detail regarding the game.

No TATE mode on Xbone, hopefully they put it in the PS4 release but I'm not getting my hopes up. I enjoyed IV more than I thought I would but was kind of underwhelmed by this game.
Re: Raiden V: Director's Cut for PS4 to be released by UFO I
The game is super mediocre compared to the rest of the series (even III). If you don't have an Xbone, you really weren't missing much.
Re: Raiden V: Director's Cut for PS4 to be released by UFO I
I've been expecting this but it's definitely taking longer than I thought it would..
I heard mixed opinions about it though.

The only major criticism I have is that the TLB should give a huge clear bonus, because it's possible to score higher if you ignore it. Or at least I think it is, anyway. KTN-HOM has the WR with a TLB clear, but I think that's probably because good players enjoy the extra planning that goes along with it.

The only problem I have with the game is Eshiria's comments. Even though you're doing hard and trying your best, she still tends to criticize you.

Nice! I hope the director's cut addresses peoples' complaints, but I'll be getting it regardless.

Re: Raiden V: Director's Cut for PS4 to be released by UFO I
Admittedly I only had an opportunity to play it a couple times so far, but I didn't really find it bad at all. Maybe not quite up to II/DX/IV, but definitely a lot more exciting than III was to me.trap15 wrote:No it kinda sucks. Worse than the rest of the series at least.

About the only thing this version needs changes on is some of the dialogue. That's it.

I didn't think it was stunning or anything, but overall have had a good time with it. I'd be surprised if it becomes anyone's favourite game but it's worth a look and at least will get an audience in its core market!
The weapon system is a bit unbalanced, some start underpowered or are difficult to use for long stretches - which the game often forces you to do, power ups are not that frequent. Your missile selection is locked in too, so that element of in-game strategy is removed. As a result it's pretty rigid - stick with the vulcan to get a clear, memorise weapon-switching points like hell if you want to level up all weapons and go for the TLB. Oh and the voiceover has a right go at you if you don't kill literally everything.
Some bits where it zooms in/out gets pretty confusing, as the perspective change means your ship handles differently. I found it roughly on a par with Eschatos in that respect, you do get used to it.
It's pretty tough though. Or maybe that's just the clickity click xbone d-pad.

Will buy.

Re: Raiden V: Director's Cut for PS4 to be released by UFO I
I've owned Raiden V since launch and I'd say it's a good shmup, though not great. If you already own it on Xbone, I don't think it's worth double-dipping unless you really loved it. As for those of you who either never owned it, or don't have an Xbone but do have a PS4, I'd say it's worth buying. Just don't expect something amazing.
There's also Deathsmiles 2, Guwange, Otomedius Gorgeous, Otomedius Excellent, all the shmups in the Capcom Arcade Cabinet collection, R-Type Dimensions, Trouble Witches Neo, and KoF Skystage. And these are just the games available on 360.GSK wrote: Can you name any good ones?

I'd hesitate to call some of those games good but fair enough!Cuilan wrote:There's also Deathsmiles 2, Guwange, Otomedius Gorgeous, Otomedius Excellent, all the shmups in the Capcom Arcade Cabinet collection, R-Type Dimensions, Trouble Witches Neo, and KoF Skystage. "Director's Cut" is obviously just an applied title used to work around any exclusivity deal with Microsoftreckon luck wrote:Nice! I hope the director's cut addresses peoples' complaints, but I'll be getting it regardless.

Yeah, Otomedius Excellent and KoF Skystage are meh at best, but the rest of them are pretty good imho.GSK wrote:I'd hesitate to call some of those games good but fair enough!

So UFO Interactive is still alive eh? Remember this?
Of course, that's just an opinion.

I thought they were dead too. They probably survived selling old copies of Super Bowling for N64 on ebay.MathU wrote:So UFO Interactive is still alive eh? Remember this?
I know I'm probably in the minority, but I wish this was being announced for the Switch too. That would be cool if it had a tate mode when in the tablet configuration.
