Super G&G is actually worse on its first stage than later in the game. No idea why that is, but persevere, it's a fantastic piece of work. Super creative.orange808 wrote:Most of the slowdown on the SNES was programming.
SG&G is a clusterf*ck. I can't even play it. But, there are plenty of intense games on the system that run just fine--without the aid of a DSP chip. Capcom rushed SG&G out. Super R-Type is the same story.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Almost all of SGnG's slowdown comes from the stupid way the developers decided to buffer sprite data which requires them to reorder all their data before copying it to video memory. It's a really stupid overhead that's relatively easy to fix, hence the patch I mentioned earlier.
But it's so easy to just blame the SNES for it.
As for why they did it, one good theory could be the Nintendo changed a bunch of things from the dev versions when the machine got released, and the devs had to suddenly fix things that worked according to the old methods. That's really just speculation, but it would explain why slowdown is mostly prominent in the system's earliest titles.

Is there a patched version of the rom that cures the slowdown?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Meh. It doesn't hurt, but it doesn't really fix it.Strider77 wrote:Is there a patched version of the rom that cures the slowdown?

When women say they are on their period to annoy or make men feel awkward on purpose, but become hysteric when a man says he has a problem with his scrotum or his penis, and say those matters aren't to be discussed in front of women.

If you tell a woman you're bleeding out of your scrotum or penis every month, her hysterical reaction is justified.soprano1 wrote:When women say they are on their period to annoy or make men feel awkward on purpose, but become hysteric when a man says he has a problem with his scrotum or his penis, and say those matters aren't to be discussed in front of women.
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.
An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.
Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Lesson well learned though; In polite society, only vagina's matter. Any talk your ball's will get you "the snip"

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I don't think "I'm on my period" is quite on the same level as "I have a problem with my scrotum". It's not like people are saying "Sorry about my mood, but I'm bleeding from my vagina lately". Well, most of the time I guess.

I can't install Typing of the Dead Overkill to an exFAT drive.
I can't think of any actual reasons for this whatsoever.
it'll probably work if I made an NTFS partition on the external for it, and then dragged it over [or just left it on that new NTFS partition], but that's still fucking retarded

The media.
When bombs go off and every celebrity in the world reads from the same page "Terrorism is bad", "We are united together", "They cannot defeat us". If you want a real answer ask someone who has nothing to lose.
None of the media asked themselves why Assad would use chemical weapons to kill innocent people. When 1) he wasn't supposed to have any chemical weapons 2) There is no real reason why conventional weapons wouldn't have done the job and 3) He knows it would bring the world onto his case (if they weren't already). Totally strange how the most obvious question to ask Trump in a conference was not asked. But screw it, just launch missiles anyway
. I cannot remember the number, but it was stated on the news the exact number of ISIS personnel killed in action on that missile strike. How do they know?
Corbyn will win the UK election. I don't want him to win but Teresa May's manifesto is full of crap the average person doesn't care about.

Nah he won't. Her and the Daily Mail rebranded the whole election as "a vote for me is a vote for Brexit: everyone else is against us and the country."
She also said some vague statement about reducing immigration so GG.
This alone will determine the election, i think.
I doubt the majority of voters actually read manifestos.

I don't understand why you wouldn't want labour to win this election unless you're a complete psychopath, an idiot who is influenced by the sun / daily mail, or a heartless rich psychopath.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I updated cygwin as a whole for the first time in years.
Really only used it since MilkyTracker's native Windows build had all kinds of weird fuckups for years -- sure, there's a billion years of audio latency, but my song doesn't jump around entirely at random when playing in Cygwin[Milky 1.0 fixed that, but it introduced another annoying issue on Windows, so I'm just continuing to use this one], so updating it wasn't particularly high on my todo list.
...and I forgot that X updates break the XWin shortcut if you've edited the command line, spent a good couple of minutes trying to remember how to set things back up the way I had it, although that wasn't too bad. Was a bit annoying, though.
now I'm left trying to make the colors from the new top command they provided not suck [kind of wish they just provided htop, although I bet there's a bunch of little things preventing it, could just compile it myself and see but eh], red on black with orange [well, red and dark yellow] is not merely ugly, but hard as fuck to read, bleh
like, I can change the colors of an open top window easily [and all the option suck because they don't let you use bold text [read: bright colors]], now I'm staring at the manpage looking at how to set options permanently
still annoyed at how and why this ugly, edgy as shit color palette shipped as the default, fuck
I could turn off colors by just pressing z after, but that's lame.
[edit]
can we make the gtk3 devs homeless? that would be nice, hot fuck why is it such a continual mess
it wouldn't matter if they were just incompetent, except everyone's jumped on the gtk3 bandwagon when it's practically like pre-release, beta shit with major breaking changes all the damn time, so loads of shit is affected by their incompetence
that sounds kind of rough, but basically every interaction I've had with GTK3 or Gnome 3 stuff has been fucking awful

That century-old drawer I was happy about... ('smile tread' http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... 4#p1252544)
...was destroyed today by the workers of the construction company doing the refurbishment of the house, after I've specifically instructed their boss to carefully move it outside during the work. Actually he offered to do it even before me mentioning it.
I fucking hate people who only pretend to listen when work/money/contract are involved, or who pretend they'll do and care way more than they actually intend to (people who have friends and coworkers like that raise hand)
And if you're an employee it's not because your boss is a moron that you have to be even dumber than he is to the point of doing something as stupid as destroying the client's furniture.
I'm aware Murphy's law is a very strong thing in this 21st century, so I should blame myself too for looking away even just a couple of minutes, but when I'm fucking busy and tired I'd love to know I can rely at least a little bit on something in this world, someone, whatever, at least a little bit.
But no, people think people nowadays prefer dealing with failure, trouble, anger, conflict, than actually do the shit that would make everyone's life easier, including theirs.
PS: it was not very valuable, but actually about a hundred years and almost pristine. I had also recently learned that it was made a by a local artisan of the time (found its signature inside) so it being somewhat part of the local history made me glad I'd fixed and kept it.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
reassembling controllers, particularly for the first time
Spent like an hour trying to get a US Model 1 Saturn controller and a JP Saturn controller back together.
whoever designed the US fat controller should have been fired, who thought that awful slanted split board design made sense, it's so freaking bad -- I'm not opposed to the increased size and I like the way the US one feels in the hand, but they went about it in a ridiculous way [and I'm actually betting that one of the reasons they switched back is because the JP design is simpler and thus cheaper to make]
The worst bit about it is that it turns out the only thing that makes the US controller's d-pad so awful is the ridiculous board placement, the components and mechanism are basically the same as in the JP one. The awful d-pad cover probably plays a minor factor too.
If there's one thing that I did kind of like, although I thought it was weird as heck at the time, the US Saturn controller had all the main buttons still on sprues so they wouldn't fall out everywhere [which is exactly what happened to the JP controller, repeatedly].
also, I was going to superglue one of the little holding nubs for the button membranes on the JP one, and then no superglue came out
I cut the end off to get some, and proceeded to get an oddly full container of superglue just spewing out, spent what was probably an actual hour with some acetone trying not to rip my skin off.

Hey the world isn't just USA and Japan, most other regions also got that fat controller. I always quite liked it, though the shoulder buttons are a bit awkward.
Also the split PCB makes for an easy padhack.
