DVI to VGA converter - Does it degrade signal from PC to CRT
Hey guys, I've been lurking for a long time.
I live in Europe and finally got a Sony Trinitron kv-29X1E.
I want to make a pc to connect to this beauty and I found out I need to get an AMD gpu based graphics card as per this guide;
http://puntodepartida.com/en/guides/con ... ing_scart/
The plan is to use a scart cable from the TV and put it into the VGA port of the graphics card.
However I only have an amd card with DVI, so my question is;
Can I use a DVI to VGA converter and keep the signal 100%?
Or do I need to buy/get an AMD graphics card with a VGA out?
Thank you all!

There are multiple types of DVI connector, the common and cheap DVI-to-VGA adapters only work if the card has a DVI-I connector.eilert99 wrote:However I only have an amd card with DVI, so my question is;
Analog signals are never perfect, but if it's a passive DVI-I to VGA adapter, you will not notice any signal degradation compared to a card with a VGA connector in your application.Can I use a DVI to VGA converter and keep the signal 100%?

Are there really any video cards, that are compatible with soft15khz or crtemudrivers and don't have a genuine VGA output ?

FYI, I have never found an active HDMI/DVI-D to RGBHV/VGA converter that handles 15kHz. OP needs DVI-I or VGA native support.
We apologise for the inconvenience

Thanks guys, that cleared it up for me!
I have sights on an AMD Radeon 250 R7 2GB card from MSI with VGA out.
This one would work, right?

Which OS will you use? Are that computer connected to your CRT TV mainly for Mame and emulation?

Maybe you can still use your AMD card. Which model is?

Your Radeon 6950 will work great in Win 7 x64 using Crt_Emudriver

Thank you so much Overkill for your kind assistance!
Now how/where do I get the dongle and/or cable in order to connect the graphics card to the CRT?
Thank you in advance

Is this the place you recommend me to download the drivers for win 7 for amd radeon hd 5xxx series?

If so, now I just need a dongle dvi to VGA and then buy the VGA to scart cable.
If the PQ is better with straight VGA out of the graphics card, I'll buy a graphics card with VGA out.

Yes, it's the oficial site. You can install the "CRT Emudriver & CRT Tools 2.0 beta 10 (Crimson 16.2.1 non-GCN* cards) for Windows 7/8/10 64-bits - NEW!", it's the more recent version.
The use of the dongle don't cause any visible signal degradation, trust me. You can co with anyone like this, or similar. It's cheap and any computer store should have it:

Take care only one DVI output works, its the DVI-I, the one with more holes next to -

With the money you save from not buying a new card, you can buy a UMSA from arcade forge. And you just need a regular DVI to VGA cable, to connect from the computer (in this case you don't need the dongle) to the UMSA, then a standard SCART male to male to connect it to your CRT TV.
If you want you can try to make the cable yourself, but then you will need to provide the 5v
Use this guide to install it after you have all the items

Wow thank you so much
I had no idea about the different DVI pins nor UMSA.
I'll pick one up!
Then I just need the male to male scart cable and I'm good to go!
