Which 6 button Genesis controller?

Nintendo can be partly to blame for the Genesis' crappy D-Pad-- they held the patent on the D-Pad as a 4 angle button that rests on top of the controller, so Sega had to make it a circle. Sony Playstation's workaround the patent was putting the D-pad partially underneath the surface, having just the top 4 directions appear as distinct buttons. Again, according to the video. Interesting video while we're on the topic for anyone interested.

Right! From what I remember we also dubbed it the 6 button Jr. Forget where that originally came from, maybe a Sega advert had it listed that way.

Wow, never knew about that that Sega Club line and controller. Sega's official 16-bit pads are sure interesting bunch having so many variants. There's also the three button made in Japan (as opposed to Taiwan) ones that have a d-pad with considerably different feel than all the rest but I believe it was only released locally. I agree Super Nes/Famicom d-pads are among the best and there's one you can use on Genesis/Mega Drive--the Hori Mega Commander. Sure does feel odd playing those or SNES/SFC controllers on Sega games.

Normally I'm a first party kind of guy, but the genesis is one of my few exceptions. My favorite is the Honey Bee Competition Pro 3 (SG-18).

I use the Laseractive branded controller. Not sure which variant it's modeled after (at the office now), but will check. It's definitely my favorite of all the ones I've tried. Sometimes I question using it based on it's value and collectibility, but I do take care of it.
