The Metal Slug Series (napalm anyone?)

Looking to chat, because I am bored and out of ammo.

Well anyway, the metal slug games are awsome. But which one is the best? I have played Metal Slug 2, 3, and X so far and it seems metal slug X is the best of the three in my opinion. Throw your vote in the poll and add your comment.

Also can the metal slug games be reviewed? They are 2D scrooling games and they are shooters(question for Malc or anyone else that runs or maintaines shumps and shumps forum).

Hello and welcome to the forum. Metal Slug is not considered a shmup. It is a platform action shooter. I am going to move this to OT. We are currently considering making a separate forum for games such as Metal Slug, Gunstar Heroes, Space Harrier, Star Fox, ect. which are considered "in-between" shooters.

back on topic:
Why did you leave out Metal Slug 5?

Anyways, I voted for the first Metal Slug. Besides having some pretty lame bosses, I just dig the whole military atmosphere more than the alien invaders and craziness of MSX (though I have yet to play MS3, 4, or 5; but with the MS4+5 combo pack coming out for PS2 in a few months, that'll change).

Metal Slug X is a great game, it's just that IMO the original just barely edges it out. Awesome ending too, what with the ID4 parody.

Out of curiosity, have you played Metal Slug Advance yet? It rocks my pants off. in a good way.

I adore Metal Slug 3 but I've been spending quite a bit of time with Metal Slug again and that really influenced my vote. The miniboss on level 3 can eat the corn out of my shit though

Even when I use techniques from others' replays, that guy still ownes me an unhealthy percentage of time

More than you asked for, bud. I think MSX is the best one because it has good pace, length, and variety. People who have played the game know what I mean, so I'll cut the crap out since I'm sick and can't bother typing up the details.

I'd rate them

Metal Slug X - best slug game imo, pefect difficulty and length.
Metal Slug 3 - Stunning, just a little too long.
Metal Slug 4 - Hard as nails and underrated - Who cares if backgrounds from previous slug games come up now and again.
Metal Slug 1 - Still looks the nicest - But too easy
Metal Slug 5 - The slide is kinda pointless and the level themes are a bit

Metal Slug 2 - Made obsolete by X

Just finished playing the origional metal slug.

Anyway has anyone noticed that the evil commander that sicks his army against you always happens to be in his underwear in every title except the orgional ms? LOL they look like pink pokadot underwear to me.

I love MSX too. It's a great computer and has some cool Compile games. Oh! You are talking about Metal Slug X. Well, I love that quite a bit too.

i have to go with 3, although i've only played that and X. the Wow factor made a big impact on my answer (as I played 3 on Xbox-animated so well it makes me sick, and X on PS, still fun but no Wow for me).

also i remember 3 being more pick-up fun. i'll have to give both a shot again though, haven't played them in forever. where did i put that MSX anyway?
