Fighting Game Hype Thread
Re: Fighting Game Hype Thread
PoE, if there's a competitive game you're passionate about, look for an online community for it.
Some vs puzzle games are on fightcade and other emulators with netplay. It's worth a shot.
Either that or choose a newer fighter that's fun enough for you with its own matchmaking.
As for combos.. well all they are is increasing your damage output. You played smart enough to find an opening, you read your opponent or they messed up and now you can punish them. Do you use a heavy attack, mash & swing widly? Or bust out that combo you've been practising to really bring the pain.
You don't reeeally need them though.
How about just learning to string 2 or 3 hits together and get that down consistently?
It's your most reliable tools that win matches.. or something IDK i'm terrible at fighters

well shit, the new Fighting Layer is a real thing that's actually being developedKAI wrote:Oh Arika, your baits are always the best
I'm so damned happy. Looks pretty nice visually for something so early, too [it's still a bit stiff and jank looking, but again, it's really early]
...and I'm so damned mad that I'm still not going to have anything to play it on if it actually does come out -- no current gen machine, no remotely PC with a dedicated GPU since I've only bought laptops for the last decade.
Shit, I still haven't been able to play KOF14...
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Thanks for posting SG, good way to start my day.
Found the part towards the end the most interesting where he talks about working without a budget or a deadline.

You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

Very nice! I don't read Polygon, but they seem to have some nice articles. I liked their Final Fantasy VII one from January.Squire Grooktook wrote:Cool Samsho interview!

edit: I need to post this part:
"JM: So why’s “Shodown” spelled funny?
YA: This was suggested to us by SNK’s U.S. distributor. They said that “Spirits” [from the Japanese title Samurai Spirits] doesn’t really tell the consumer what the game is about, so they suggested replacing it with the word “Showdown.” And the movie Shogun was popular at the time so they suggested the spelling of “Shodown” as a reference to Shogun."
My fucking sides.

Good interview, its cool he wants to regroup with his old team and make that samurai monster themed game and not a new samsho....creating a game that has such a great legacy but screws it up is not the best way to remember the series
I'm looking at you Samsho sen

That thing looked like a glorified MUGEN game.Khan wrote:Good interview, its cool he wants to regroup with his old team and make that samurai monster themed game and not a new samsho....creating a game that has such a great legacy but screws it up is not the best way to remember the series

Anything that isn't 3D can look like a MUGEN game. That's the whole point of MUGEN.

I meant a shitty put together MUGEN game. I'm not dissing MUGEN, by the way...ZacharyB wrote:Anything that isn't 3D can look like a MUGEN game. That's the whole point of MUGEN.

Re: Fighting Game Hype Thread
How does Sen look like a glorified MUGEN game, given it's 3D? It's not even that bad, just kind of whatever.

Ugh, looks like I made a fool of myself here, confusing Sen with VI/Tenkaichi Kenkakuden .
My apologies...

Tenkaichi is so mugen it hurts. Sen is also shit tho.
btw, I've been playing Zero SP like crazy lately, one SNK's bests imo. Yoshitora's so cool, can't stop loving all his animation frames.
Wish they fix the HNG64 driver soon, watched some combo videos from Asura Zanmaden and the game looks pretty (broken but) cool.

I knew I was right to hold off on Steam version! Didn't want to have 2 versions of the original only to wake up one day and see Late has been announced.
Under Night is great, despite the broken top 3. The balance tweaks in Exe.Late sound perfect for taking the stupid out.

Putting 96 first feels like some kind of blasphemy, even if the list is probably unordered.

Just in case Aquapazza and Nitroplus Blasterz weren't niche enough!
