Hmm. Zelda's 20th anniversary was a while ago, in Feburary. Busy month for Nintendo, wasn't it? I thought the NES was released in small quantities in 1985, though...
It's the little system that won't die. I have a top loading NES hooked up next to my Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube.
A proper home for a NES!
A proper home for a NES!
My two earliest video game experiences:
1. When I was 7 at a friend's house playing the Atari 2600 and games like Pitfall, Atlantis.
2.Playing the NES for the first time (when I was 9) was the real treat though. I had been wanting to play SMB forever after having drooled over pictures of the game in the old Sears catalog. A few years later me, my lil bro and sis pooled our money and our dad paid the other half and we got our NES. Endless memories of me and my bro trying to beat Mega Man 2, 3 and 4 and getting up early just to play SMB 1,2 or 3.
Me and my brother still talk about the first time we played Mega Man 2.
My sister still plays SMB 3 and Dr. Mario (she can beat it on highest level and speed). Sadly our old Nintendo got the terminal blink and after an unsuccessful attempt to fix it I now must hunt down a top loader.
Anyways, just had to get the nostalgia off my chest. Here's to 20 more years of the NES as the greatest of the older systems.
edit: BTW, St Dragon. I am looking into buying a Sony trinitron and am wondering if the TV in your pic is TATE'able (not knowing whether or not for sure u TATE ur shmups

Well, I have the SONY FD Trinitron Flat 21” KV-21LS30E 50/60HZ Multi Region, Stereo TV.
I've never set it on its side but I wouldn't say its TATE'able exactly, as the TV's shape is not the classic rectangular-cube shape but rather an irregular hexagon-octagonal shape. So setting it on its side will most certainly crack the plastic edges on the side.
Other than that, with 2 x RGB(Scart-IN), 2 x RCA(Composite-In), 1 x Earphone jack-out, 1 x RF-IN (Antenna), a very clear picture with vibrant colours, this TV is excellent for shooters. (Especially horizontal ones)
Here is what I have:

i have the same model as alpolio, and it is very doable in tate. the only thing is the newer models of the same set have a more narrow side, and they are also slightly curved, so this would probably cause some probs.Dylan1CC wrote:edit: BTW, St Dragon. also, after a couple years of tate, i'm having problems with it. see this thread
I have no sig whatsoever.
I have the distinguished experience of dying on the very first Goomba.
I didn't even hit the coin block.

The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

I've had it happen to me too. Of course, it usually happens when I'm very tired, or a good laugh. It seems funny to me to die from the first enemy you see.Blade wrote:I have the distinguished experience of dying on the very first Goomba.

My favorite personal NES milestone was beating Metroid in under 3 hours last spring. Anyone knows that the final battle with Mother Brain's pesky zebetite cannons is flat out vicious. Now imagine that same tension doubled when you are also worrying about finishing on time. Worth it though. I now have a permanent save file on my GBA cart featuring Samus herself.
First time I beat the game was playing the NES cartridge and frantically writing down passwords during the few weeks before Prime was released. Good times.
I also need to play through all of Blaster Master, love that game.
