Dark Rage: New Old SHUMP
Dark Rage: New Old SHUMP
Hi,
I'm Pablo Testa, from Argentina. I'm a game developer.
In 1997, with 2 friends I create Dark Rage, my first game.
We are fans of the classics R-Type, Xevious, etc... just to name a few.
Dark Rage is a side scroller shump like R-Type. We feature 23 levels, 23 bosses, many weapons,
lighting effects, multi parallax scroll, 2 player cooperative and a really hard difficulty.
The game get released in Argentina, but never see the rest world.
Only run in DOS, I have a windows version but is not working properly in the new machines.
In order the share with the world, I upload a version to run from DOSBox.
I attach some screens too.
I hope the real fans can try the game and send me some feedback.
If you have any problems running the game, please let me know.
Background music is missing, a CD is needed I'm working on it.
here is the link to download:

Thank you for your time spent on this work, and for distributing this game for all to enjoy!
The screenshots are quite promising - striking compositions keeping a clean look in high-res.

Re: Dark Rage: New Old SHUMP
Maybe it's just me, but none of the links in this thread work. They don't even bring up a window or tab, and I'm using the newest FireFox version.
Anyone else having this issue?

Re: Dark Rage: New Old SHUMP
Yo también vivo acá en Buenos Aires y lamentablemente nunca lo vi (El que sí vi fue Prothotea, que tiene mecánicas a lo Xevious pero desafortunadamente los controles eran terroríficos y encima se colgaba a lo perro.)
Anyway, back to english, the screenshots do indeed look promising. If I recall correctly, the guys from the old XtremePC magazine mentioned this game... God, the memories.
Like Sideline, I love these shmups recovered from the waves of time!

Through a little trial and error, I made a working link to the file. Here it is if anyone has the same problem I did...

i'm from Argentina too, an old arcade gamer and pc one (never console or commodore :// )
Congrats for such a creation.
i'm a fan of vertical shmups but i like horizontals too. Played R-Type, Xevious, and almost all arcade ones.
Maybe the windows version can be run with a SVN DOSBOX with windows 9x installed.
Never seen your game :-// make the source open and or post it in steam's greenlight please )
Cannot see the shots, nice resurrected game and Thanks *you*!!
I did try the game and had problems:
Too low volume during intro animation and cannot use the joystick properly, it locks up in a corner.
Thank *you*
Cheers!!

What a great contribution to the shmups world! The game works fine.
By the way, can you make scans of your box and upload them on MobyGames?

Re: Dark Rage: New Old SHUMP
Wow, this is like playing one of those slick old-school Win95 shmups from the mid-1990s. I still have one of those old-school CRT-based SVGA monitor with 800 x 600 resolution and to have Dark Rage running on it would be ace in my book (with scanlines & all for completeness).
I suppose if Dark Rage can be run in 640 x 480 resolution mode, then I could get it to run on my low-res candy cab with an Ultracade uVC setup would be totally gravy/awesome/radical. Definitely a blast from the past! How cool is that, folks?
I used to play the Win95 version of Tempest 2000 with a Logitech Wingman Warrior joystick/rotary knob spinner setup and it was awesome to play it in that specific format (this was before the advent of the USB protocol with PC gamepads, joysticks, etc).
Thanks again,

Keywiz answer please!!
Re: Dark Rage: New Old SHUMP
Hi,
Sorry about the too late response, i dive into game programming and lost track of everything.
The box should be in my mother's house I will look into that.
Thanks for looking at my first game.

Re: Dark Rage: New Old SHUMP
Any chance of fixing the options screen misalignment and I noticed the CD music in the full sound release does not respond to volume adjustment. If I mount the cue/bin files myself, though, I then can adjust the CD music volume properly. Maybe something in the DOSBox version you included with it and how you are doing your mountings.keywiz wrote:Hi,

Re: Dark Rage: New Old SHUMP
The necromancy is strong with this one.
...though, as someone who has tried the game, I can confirm that the options screen is incredibly annoying.

Play for fun and win when you can.
Re: Dark Rage: New Old SHUMP
Did you ever find a way to set the difficulty in the options screen? In it's current state you can't mouse over those settings. The rest you can get to in a convoluted way.Deadliar wrote:The necromancy is strong with this one.
