Jaleco sequel to P-47!....

Post by dave4shmups »

Just saw this on KLOV today, for the first time:

Anyone played it? I really dig the oringinal, and had no idea that Jaleco had ever done a sequel!

Didn't the original geta port for PC-Engine? I heard it's quite bad, but maybe that's just because of the port. You play it?

I've played the PCE port, and I think it's fantastic! :D Not the best PCE shmup, and kind of light on action, but very bright and colorful graphics. Definately worth a purchase, IMO.

I used to own the P47 Aces PCB. It's not bad, but they went a little overboard putting fast bullets into it, you have to rely on smart bombs in several sections to avoid them. Aside from that it's very much what you'd expect, like the first game on steroids - except there are 4 planes to pick from, each of which has slightly different weaponry. I think the girl had the best one, it had some auto-aim ability.

Something halfway between the two would have been better. It sort-of works in MAME as I recall.

I gave it a go last night, and it works fine in MAME except for some sound issues; but yeah, I agree with you about the gameplay. My main problem was the fact that all 4 planes have large hit boxes, and the bullets are also very large, in addition to being very fast.

Still, a pretty good sequel, IMO-just not as fun as either Fire Mustang, or Pre-historic Isle.

P-47 Aces

Like Bloodflowers I also used to own the P-47 Aces PCB, but I sold it on. Despite the rarity of the board, I still didn't feel it was worth keeping.
