Scanline solution for Retro Freak?

Post by Skykid »

Eyeing up this little box just because it caught my interest, but on reading back through threads from a year ago the scanline option sounded kind of sucky. Have recent FM updates introduced an option to increase their intensity at all? Or is an HDMI/VGA adaptor plugged into a scanline generator a workable option (and had anyone tried?)

Thanks much!

If you use a HDMI to VGA converter with your average SLG unit you end up with 360 scanlines instead of 240p, so it won't look right. I can't think of any other easy way.

That's a dealbreaker for me. Why the funk have they not included a density option for scanlines in a FW update? They're so soft they have no effect really. :(

I can't think it would be that difficult to achieve, emulation's been doing it for ages. Bit of a shame because generally speaking I hear the quality of emulation is rather good and quite superior to the Retron.

Use a Pi3 with EmulationStation instead and you can fiddle with the scanlines as long as you want. If you don't insist on using your phyical carts (which nobody does more than once with the RetroFreak), then the Pi3 is superior in every aspect.

Not aware of any solution, but I have a retro freak and honestly it doesn't look bad. The scanlines are a little faint but it still achieves the desired effect.
