For the past two months and twenty four days (and counting), around 9:05-9:25 PM the neighbors lock their dog outside their house into their garden after which the thing continuously keeps yelping to get back inside. I sit right next to a window, so anything that happens outside eventually reaches my ears no matter how high I turn up the volume on my headphones. It's not just the repeated barking of the dog that gets to me, but wondering why the hell the neighbors routinely have to lock their dog outside day in day out. They should be able to hear it barking too, so why the hell do they do it? Do they always want to be alone around that time each day that not even the dog is allowed inside? Can't they just fuck on another time?

And that's just fall, this summer another neighbor let her children play outside (the backs of everyone's houses in the vicinity is connected to that grass field), and one of them kept making some kind of 'huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuur' noise over and over and over and over. Day in day out every midday I keep hearing that one fuck go HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUR repeatedly, not to mention the ensuing crying children. Fucking hell, why does it have to be THAT noise on a constant loop? What the hell was it that made him hum like a fucking retard over and over?

I think you may have already answered your own question.
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

When you start a process that's gonna take a while (hours) in your computer, alt-tab to your web browser and watch YouTube videos then alt-tab a long while later to a prompt saying something like "are you sure: yes/no".

Oh HECK no :o I downloaded Metallica's Garage Inc for old times sake, and painstakingly picked the gems out of the hunk of shit that is some of disc 1 and most of disc 2! But the plonker who ripped it had fucked up the CUE file, so all the MP3s I made cut off randomly. Now I must download another from the selection of lossless rips on offer, so I can enjoy it on my commute next week! Yo fuck modern life

PS calm down assholes, I bought this shit at release BITD! Its quite literally back home in my garage somewhere!

The reason I fucked up the motherboards of my VA3 Genesis 1 and BVM-20F1U's deflection card both have to do with a solder sucker: with the VA3 Genesis 1, I put too much extra solder on the old capacitor's pins (needed to put more solder on it so it would be able to suck it out), which ended up bridging two traces, and then when I tried to remove it, I burned both of them; with the deflection card, I kept attempting to suck out the solder of a capacitor's pin hole, and eventually burned a trace next to it due to it taking so long (but was able to fix it with solder, due to it being minor). My dad said that was the only way to remove capacitors, and I figured he was right because he's been soldering since he was a teenager in the 1970's, so he'd obviously know something as simple as that.

Then in Engineering class about a month ago, I learned about solder wick, and found that it works tons better. I asked my dad about it, and he said he thought there was too much solder connecting the capactors to the PCB for a wick to be useable. Thanks, dad

That humanity hasn't yet learned how to insta-cure fucking colds.

(we know how to insta-suppress all of the effects, though making our organism regret it on the short term, which is why no doc ever will give a prescription for the actual best dope unless you're choking in your own secretions...)

I've been looking at some pseudo-GameBoy-styled games and mock-ups and I can't help but notice that everyone uses all four shades on their player/enemy/etc sprites even though that's not technically possible for a GameBoy.

I mean, I get why they do it, but, still... it's wrong! >:o

You could layer two sprites above each other to use all four shades on an object [there are two programmable sprite palettes available on a B/W Game Boy, so if they're laid out 0-1-2-transparent and then 0-1-3-transparent, you get all four shades after stacking].

Of course, doing it for every object isn't quite reasonable for games with lots of stuff on screen.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

It seems even for one sprite it must be a pretty taxing technique, because the only time I've seen it done is the death animation in Balloon Kid, where I guess it can work because at that point the one sprite tumbling down the screen is all that's really being processed.
e: well, okay, apparently Yu Yu Hakushou pulls this off, being a sort of one-on-one fighter

Though, I said "technically impossible" so I guess that means I'm still wrong!

On a related note, there are some instances of games deliberately staging certain sprites (such as some bosses in Kid Dracula) over a single-color background so that they can use transparent pixels within the sprite as a fourth color.
And then there's Parodius where they use transparent white highlights within the sprites and then just don't care is some bits of the background show through those little spots. The fact that those highlight spots and the backgrounds themselves are pretty sparse means that the technique actually seems to work out well.

About once a week for the past couple of months, planes constantly fly over my house. Right now, there's a plane about once every half-minute. I need noise-cancelling headphones.

What's wrong with preventative measures by keeping your body healthier? I mean, your body is able to cure a lot of things and faster before you may even notice anything wrong if you keep it in better shape. Try eating more organic home cocked food (or at least avoiding processed, gmo and preservative loaded food of today - ie. buy meat from your local butcher over supermarket meat), eating out less and consider some exercise (at least cardio twice a week. Cardio is the main important thing. But you may want to consider weight training while your at it too - totally up to you. You don't even have to run. I just walk on a 6 incline 6 pace speed treadmill for 30 min maintaining a heart rate anywhere between 150-165. Cardio is all about the heart rate training). You'll feel a lot better and I noticed since doing this I've yet to get a cold and several times it felt like I was about the get it this session, but my body must it killed it in the budding stages because the coughs and sneezing didn't last for more then an hour. Meanwhile my roommate got sick twice since September.

I just noticed FuriousPaul is on Twich now and since I know he's conscience about the food he eats, keeping healthy via natural means and does cardio twice a week, I decided to ask him just now if he ever get the common cold anymore? And he said no. He doesn't get sick anymore period. That in the past 5 years he only got sick once.

I eat total garbage and literally only go out to eat, and the only time I've been sick in the past several years is when I got food poisoning.

Base health is important but it won't prevent you from getting a cold. It makes it more likely that your body will fight it off before you see many symptoms, but most of the time you get less ill as you get older is that you've been exposed to and fought off the common strains. Even then this is generalising, the immune response is more complicated than "eat a balanced diet and get some exercise, yo".

Nowt wrong with being healthy, but anecdotal evidence with a sample of two is bad science. As is an anti-GM sentiment.

People in their late 20s who act like they're getting old.

Is that really what our society has come down to? Have people never heard the expression "you're only as young as you feel"?

And I agree with it.

Agreed. And I used to feel a lot older. But now I feel more like that gif BIL just posted. A lot of things desensitise to what feeling great really is like. For example, smokers think everything is fine for the most part and don't realise how not fine they were until they quit.

I quit smoking for vaping two years ago, nothing got better and now people laugh at me.
Also quit liquor because it's expensive, but I got a beer belly instead.

Fuck it gimme whiskey and a cig, I'm not getting any decent pension money in this life anyway.

Why do people even smoke, anyway? I tried a cig a few months ago, and it didn't even taste good. I didn't gag or anything; it just tasted/smelled terrible. Why do people smoke cigs if they don't even taste good? Like, I get nicotine's addicting, but how do people even smoke to the point of being addicted if it doesn't taste good? :|

That's not quitting smoking in my opinion. And how much healthier then cigarettes vaping is seems to be a hot debate.

Drinking too much isn't healthy either.

This old bloke down the petrol station dropped his e-cig whilst he was on the shitter, and it blew his knackers clean off. Well technically it blew up in his face and knocked out some teeth but I think it sounds more amusing my way.

I smoked for 22 years or so (cigatettes and LOTS of weed) and gave up 18 months ago, so far i feel no change physically or mentally. Giving up is all about the long term health gain, reducing the chance of getting cancer etc. In fact the main benefit has been the money saved as a result.

AG1999, peolple get into smoking because when you are 12 or 13 its a way of connecting with the adult world in some sense, doing something you know you shouldnt do or simply trying impress peers etc. I only started smoking cigarettes because I smoked loads of weed, I too never got the point of smoking for the sake of it, but one led to another.

Stopping smoking for vaping still cuts out a load of chemicals that cigarettes contain, I was lucky in being able to give up but if people cant then its a much better alternative.

First time I ever heard that. If I didn't notice any difference, I doubt I would have lasted my 13 months of not smoking. Physical and mental difference is that final push I needed to keep from even trying one more cigarette since.

There's lots of photos online of exploding vapor smokes. And by the photos I've seen, me thinks these folks wish they stuck with cigarettes instead.

Forums that bitch about "necrobumping."
If you really didn't want people to post in an old thread, there's board software with the feature to auto-lock threads after a certain time elapsed/after they get pushed down a few pages, you don't need to jump down some guy's throat for asking for help when he probably was looking for info on google and found a thread from like three years ago and it described his exact problem but it didn't have a solution/the links with the solution were dead.

It's nice that this isn't one of those boards, even if it's actually kind of silly seeing a thread with a very literal ten year gap between posts.
