The polls were accurate however. There's an error margin of around +/- 3 (which is taking 1.5% from one column and giving it to the other). Obama overperformed the polls by +3%. Hillary underperformed by 3%. When she dropped in that last week, it meant she was on the way down and would drop again on election day - a tiny fragment of people don't make up their minds if they'll trouble themselves until the very last day.

There was some time that there was a glimmer of appeal to Hillary - back when she was first lady and told to shut up and bake cookies. And she responded, effectively, go fuck yourself. That was a big deal in the old days. But to modern young people, it means nothing. Of course women are human beings. Now can you please increase their wages and make sure they don't go bankrupt when a family member gets cancer, or something?

You're right that the electoral college does give more weight to individual votes in smaller states, but typically the vast amount of electoral votes from the more populated states overwhelm the aggregate electoral votes from smaller states. That wasn't the case this time, but it's hardly reason enough to change the system.

It's only happened a few times. For the sake of argument, let's say it it's a coin flip (even though the last time was 2000, in which Gore beat Bush in the popular vote... and questionably beat him in delegates but that's another shit show). What about the other arguments that not only does it skew peoples ideas of whether they should vote or not, but all the way to everyone's favorite: campaign spending. I've even read the battleground states get more benefits than other states, statistically. All this (and the super delegates as well) flies in the face of "your vote is just as important as anyone else's". Total load of shit.

On a related note, there was an interesting letter to the editor in the paper this morning: the writer suggested that if Trump really did want to "build consensus" and start "getting things done" even before he's inaugurated, one thing he could do is push for Merrick Garland to finally be given a hearing.
