Nintendo promised more stock before the holidays, but hopefully it's not in a small trickle where you have to check store trackers every 10 minutes.

But People are paying the price though. Thats why its so high.

Meanwhile they could pick up a Minty original NES for a whole lot less and will probably last longer.

You almost wish people knew about these forums. They could get the avs with a flash cart, would be a million times better and the same price.

They're a huge rich corporation who can create these small batches to increase demand. It's a strategy, not like they're low on cash. The people who price gouge piss me off though. It's like scalpers with concert tickets

Why are people going insane over a plug-and-play console that emulates some NES games? Someone please explain this to me.

It's cute, it's cheap, it's legal, it's official, it's easy, it's effective. There are no other options that are all those things.

Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.

If there was a TG16/PC-Engine or a Neo-Geo version of this thing, retro gamers would go apeshit. I guess the cynicism is from the fact that Nintendo has been pawning off their retro libraries for a long time in the virtual console.

There was an attempt at this for the Neo Geo, the Neo Geo X with its docking station. It was poorly designed and poorly received.

What was wrong with it? I see it on eBay for extremely high prices.

IIRC reviews said the screen was poor and the HDMI output was fuzzy, and SNK tried to have them pulled from shelves citing the poor quality. It was also expensive for the quality of the product.

I can not imagine anyone can "shrink" the core pce unit any smaller than it is already for a plug and play console.

Why not? The Pi Zero is much smaller, is more than powerful enough to do the job, and even it could be shrunk a bunch if you redesigned it to remove everything that the mini console would not require, like the camera port or the USB port or the SD slot (would be soldered onboard) or probably most of the GPIO pins. You need HDMI out, power in, a flash chip, and six GPIO pins for the controller port.

Seems to me like you could get a redesigned pi zero down to maybe two thirds the size if you targeted it at the specific application. Heck, people have put a full-sized pi zero inside a SNES controller.
