Need help with retro gaming setup measurements

Post by Salem »

Hello everyone,

I've been wanting to make a retro gaming setup for awhile now. I found a carpenter who can do it at a decent price.

The only thing I need now is measurements for the console's slot. My setup will look something similar to this:

Can someone give me measurements so that I can fit any console in the slots? This is so whenever I get a new console I know it can fit without any issues.

Thank you.

I use this Ikea book case turned on it's side. I can hold a PS4 or Xbox 360 lying flat, no problem.

The slots measure 33x33 cm approx 13,2 x 13,2 inches

Will a Sega Genesis plus all of its add-ons be able to fit that size?

I would have him make a rack with two different slot-sizes, one for big consoles, one for small. That way you can use the space more efficiently. Also, a tiny console (like AV Famicom or Wii) in a huge slot will just look lame.

Can someone tell me how tall would a model 1 Genesis be if it had a model 1 Sega CD and 32x. With Sonic 3 and Knuckles and a game genie?

Don't forget the Power-Base Coverter and an EA cartridge on-top

Personally I prefer the Model 1 Genesis with a Model 2 Sega CD since the Model 2 CD unit makes the assembly grow both vertically and horizontally, and you get to use the silly plastic extension piece with the metal bracket that makes your Model 1 Genesis feel properly supported. I had to use mine without the extension piece for awhile and my Genesis was depressed and felt overweight. Glad that's over

Agreed. This is why I went with this Ikea unit :

Works great. I know the wider consoles will fit for sure, since there are wide openings also.
It also has a great console-per-space ratio. It's really compact yet houses 6 consoles minimum. Put another unit next to it and you're up to 12 consoles minimum, and yet it still doesn't make for a terribly wide furniture piece.
