wait what

Also I would really like to play Aqua Rush, TGM2, and Batrider (listed by priority, and maaaaybe TGM3, though I'll feel a little bad making you bring that much with you).

Yeah man, there's an arcade version on Mega Play hardware. It's mostly the same exact game but there are some differences.

Currently undumped but moh is trying to fix that.

Wow, that sounds awesome!

I'll bring Aqua Rush, that way colour_thief doesn't have to bring so many PCBs lol.

colour_thief and I have played this one a fair bit. In terms of mechanics, enemies, boss patterns, attacks, etc, it appears to be identical to the Sega Genesis version. There's no time limit visible (so you could sit indefinitely on Black's stage without rolling the die?).

There's two main changes:

1) 80 health at the start of EVERY STAGE. You don't start with 100 health and start with +20 on each stage after that, so the later stages are much harder due to you having less than half the health you normally would.

2) There's a lives system in place (a number for these appears beside each player) but the default setting is zero (no extra lives, no way to obtain them in-game). When you die, you immediately respawn and use a life if you have one, or game over if you don't. In 2P mode, unlike the original, you cannot steal half the other player's health to respawn (which is also the case in the very poor XBLA port... :/ ).

It's pretty awesome, though much harder to 1CC due to the limited health constraints. If you can get through the game without taking damage on the Sega Genesis version though, then it'll probably feel pretty much the same (you have to be very badass to manage this). I haven't noticed any differences in attack patterns and such, and I've played this on the Genesis (and Game Gear version) pretty obsessively.

FAIR WARNING:

The hori cab is still being weird - games are playable (we were playing VS Aqua Rush last time) but colours will probably look really off. If I mess with the monitor settings, Atomiswave games seem to be displayed perfectly (but I have to crank some of the contrast settings to their max).

Mighty Pang would be cool as a non-shmup vert option. A few Guelph locals coming later, asked for Magical Drop 3, Puzzle Bobble 4 or a Mr. Driller Game.

Yes, yes I was. But Bomb Jack Twin was pretty rad, and I enjoyed Mighty Pang when we played it at your place too!

I was hoping to have the NES setup but the pin connector inside seems to be shot. Corrosion, and it isn't gripping the cartridges well enough to make connection it seems. Gotta get it repaired. :/

Oh. My. GRASH. That was amazingly fun. Between watching pestro87 get 4 bil 1cc on Futari BL God, playing SoRR with him, the Aqua Rush tournament (I will beat you someday colour_thief! :D), the POPSICLE FREEZING TO SKUB'S LIPS (OH MY GOD THAT WAS HILARIOUS AND I AM ALSO SO SORRY, MY FREEZER IS ULTRA COLD I DON'T KNOW AAAAAAAAA), the madness of watching coop play of Battletoads, dive kicking madness, oh, it was amazing.

I hope you guys had as much fun as I did. Thanks everyone for coming out, and thanks again Skub for the Aqua Rush soundtrack. Eargasmic.

I think I got 4.79bil, it could have been 5+ bil but I messed up badly on Stage 5, oh well :P I had no-missed up until Stage 5 and my score was at 3.6bil.

10/10 meet. Lots of great memories were had! A few highlights for me:

- Aqua Rush 1P side audio advantage
- Aqua Rush tournament
- The insane Futari BL Original 1CC
- Watching color_thief beast it out on TGM
- Seeing a Mega Play PCB for the first time
- SoRR co-op with BKR
- The popsicle fatality
- Battletoads madness

Many thanks for hosting and it was great to meet everyone!

Anyone up for doing anything in October? Say on the 29th? It's an excuse to play Deathsmiles!

I'm tempted to get a cap kit and just throw that at the hori cab to see if that fixes it. It's either that, or get some help rewiring everything from scratch (which would fix the busted speaker perhaps)... anyone have any experience taking cabs to Playdium's repair shop?

October 29th sounds good to me! If you manage to get the monitor fixed on the hori cab I can bring Deathsmiles MBL. But as always, I'm content with just playing God Mode and SoRR.

THEN GET HYPED!

We'll all celebrate Halloween by playing Deathsmiles like one credit then going back to something we're actually invested in I'm sure.

I want to see you play Ecstatica now. >w>

I've got RE2 & 3 (I was always crazy about RE3, did a knife-only run on it) and Silent Hill 2 & 3 if you wanted to play those.

And this is all you need to know in regards to Bullet Soul: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3q-6ES1xg8

My NES appears to be dead, won't power on. Not sure if it's the AC adaptor or the NES itself. No Battletoads this time, guys. :/

Edit: Actually, it looks like it's the AC adaptor - when I wiggle the wire it sometimes powers on. Alas, no spare one handy it seems.

Thanks everyone for coming, was a lot of fun!

As it turned out that NES game my friend was trying to remember was Street Fighter 2010 and I happened to have a copy, woo!

We have to actually do some recording sometime. The streaming suggestion was a neat idea.

I'll bring my PCB capture setup next time. Here's a sample of what it looks like (I haven't uploaded anything to Youtube with the current setup yet, hence the picture here).

Hey, did anyone leave a grey jacket behind last time? Calvin Klein, XL size. I think it belongs to you Khoa, or the guy who came with you whose name escapes me - there's a McDonalds receipt in the pocket.

Does March 4th work for folks for a meet? The hori monitor that was having colour issues now works wonderfully, will post details when I get home.
