Granada [X68000/MD]

Post by Perikles »

It'd be a shame to have an inactive thread for this great game. The previous thread can be found here: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=28635

I'll quote Enhasa's excellent overview (I took the liberty to bold one important part about scoring in the MD version):
Developed by Wolf Team for the X68000 and Mega Drive / Genesis in 1990, Granada is so awesome and ahead of its time it will make your face melt. Featuring ridiculously amazing music by Motoi Sakuraba, a strategic and satisfying scoring system, and the most awesome and fun method of fast movement ever invented -- all this over two years before Recca! -- Granada remains the king of the multidirectional top-down shooter genre.

One credit only and the default three tanks please! Different difficulties and platforms will be tracked separately. Custom controls are allowed and recommended. At least the MD version has a bug, just like Thunder Dragon 2, where the final stage's score tally isn't added to your score. So if you complete the game, screenshot or remember your finishing time bonus for the last stage, then manually add that to your final score.
Also keep in mind that the MD version starts on Easy by default. I'll add new tables once I get entries for those!

Please format your scores like so:

Great replay, Kino! Never watched anything regarding the X68000 version, was greatly enjoyable to see the similarities and differences between the two. :) Amazing audiovisual presentation, although I do prefer the MD voice samples ("Refrecta!"). A few questions if you don't mind:

- Is it just my imagination or is the tank a bit slower on the X68000? Just from watching the video I get the feeling you're more agile on the MD.

- Is the little icon in stage 2 (at the end of the long iron bar to the left side of the flying battleship) not there in the X68000 or did you just decide to skip it?

- Is it possible to move up and behind the fourth boss on the X68000 like you can do on the MD? It's probably not intended in the latter, but if you stick to the borders you should be able to do it without falling off.

Anyway, interesting changes. I find it particularly noteworthy how they changed the life bar/lives system. You can certainly score better on the X68000 since more lives mean that you could sacrifice more of them on the time-out in order to capitalize handsomely by the end of the stage. It's very risky, of course, for your stamina has been reduced. And great that they added another stage to the MD version (or expanded the bonus stage, rather).

That's what happens if you surreptitiously edit your post instead of writing anew for better visibility, like normal persons would do it. 8)

Great scores, by the way! I should definitely play Granada one of these days again, it's such a brilliant game.

Outstanding work, I'll most certainly check your video later! Do you still prefer the X68000 version or has your opinion changed since?

How about a Pop'n TwinBee 2-ALL with a perfect bell chain? Now THAT would be amazing. I'd settle for a regular 2-ALL, though.
