Novice is a fun excuse to take Reco AB for a spin. If only her lock-on range had been increased she would be great, even with the extra movement speed on her focus shot.

Coulda been better if I hadn't lost a life or two stupidly earlier, but still was rough going into the Larsa fight with 3 lives and 2 bombs, only to come out with that. Can't stand 1.01 scoring though, so I'm happy all the same.

Also, a better (sort of) nomiss Novice Ultra clear... this time I didn't miss an extend. I missed both extends by bombing the building. -_-; Made the TLB Larsa fight more interesting though since I ran out of bombs during it so was a bit hair-raising getting the nomiss.

Well, that was fast.
Got hit once in stage 4 and 5... not sure how many points that cost me. I also missed one lantern in stage 5. Not the greatest run, but it will do for now.

4th place on the leaderboard. Crappy run tbh. Serious mistakes in all Stages except Stage 1. Ended up hitting Stage 5 with 1K gems less than my target.

To get a WR level run you'd need to:
- Get at least 50m before the Stage 2 boss (done a few times)
- End Stage 3 with 34k gems (never once)
- Time the zako rush correctly in Stage 4 by doing the first part perfectly (done a few times)
- If everything was done correctly, you should be able to enter Stage 5 with 60k gems
- Then, if you can get the stage counter to 5500 before the first wall and hit all the lanterns you should be mostly okay

Probably too hard for me, I'd be happy with a good run entering Stage 5 with 59k.

Finally started getting 52 mil before stage 2 boss again. Silly mistake on Stage 3... luckily it didn't cost me much.
Stage 4 was good enough but nothing special. Stage 5 wasn't that great, I keep missing one lantern during the last big Dragon. 70.6k gems before Larsa.

I'm not nearly as consistent as I'd like. There are still many sections I need to refine if I want to get a better score.

I finally hit that 50k gems target for Stage 5 (actually, 49999 to be precise )
Of course I completely screwed up the stage after that, as customary. I even missed one of the easiest lanterns for no reason. I'm sure I dropped at least 4-5 million points, maybe more.

With a better Stage 5 that would have been a WR level run. Stage 2 was perfect, missed a few points in stage 3 and 4 but nothing major (maybe 1 mil total), but the WR drops some serious points in stage 2 and 4 so.

I had been sitting on a new, safer route to hit my gem target for a few days but I just couldn't get a decent run together until now.

Pretty bummed out about this run tbh. I found a way to get even more gems by Stage 5 (51k) which is more than I thought possible and very likely optimal.

I totally screwed up Stage 5 after that though. Even a mediocre final stage would have been a WR score.
I lost about 2.5 mil on the first part, dropped a very easy lantern due to carelessness for 3 more mil, and got hit twice in the latter half for maybe 2/3 more miliions, plus 0.5 mil lost because I cleared with only 5 bombs.

Taken all together a run like this could score about 470m with good play. The theoretical optimal should be around 472, 473 mil. I don't have a good grasp of how many points staying above 70k is actually worth so it could be even more.

EDIT: With gems between 70k and 74.9k you get about 1 mil every 15 seconds. Should make a significant difference.

Is this only during stages, or does it apply during bosses? In other words, is there any reason to try to time-milk bosses?

You're getting quite close to the WR - can't wait until you get it.

Heh, it would have surely made things a bit more interesting if you could time-milk Larsa for extra points. Sadly the 70k+ bonus stops ticking during bosses so there's really not much to do during that fight.

After a bit more of research I'm upping the estimate on optimal play to 475-476m. My best 1-4 plus my best Stage 5 so far would score 473m in total and I'm definitely still dropping points here and there.

First time getting both a no miss of the first 4 stages and a semi-decent stage 5 coming in with almost 1b. A few mistakes and points where I play a bit too safe stop this from being as high as I would like, though.

Kind of disgusted by this run for the idiotic stage 4 mid boss death and the botched Larsa fight. But I'm happy to hit 1.2b for the first time.
