My old score:
Plasmo - SNES - 1,301.000 - 2-9

I just had a very bad run but i did something impossible:
I died in 2-3 right before the boss and i had to survive the whole boss AND the mini volcanoes with no power ups.I found a sweet spot for the minvolcanoe section. It is possible to survive only with one speed up.

Hey Zak, might want to add an SNES label at the top of the 1st table. I damned near crapped my pants when I saw those scores and thought it was the PS2.

WOOHOO!!! Never made it this far into a 2nd loop.

Landshark - SNES - 733,100 - 2-5

1 lifed up to the Moia level. Died in the middle, recovered after 4 or 5 guys. Then died at the boss, and killed it with 1 life left. Then couldn't deal with the beginning of the next level.

I've only survived 3-1 that one time...for me the hardest part is the intro part, by the time I got to the boss I had 2 options and a laser (I think). So the boss wasn't really tough and I got by him first try. Then I had to be an idiot and go in the level 2 bonus room and died there, and it was impossible to recover. I don't really have any tips though for 3-1, just hope and pray  and try to get at least 2 options and a laser for the boss..although maybe a shield/laser/1 option would be better....
Once I get some tv problems sorted out I'm going to start playing again and hopefully get to the later part of the game in loop 3, maybe even loop 4, we'll see..

Chico - SNES - 1,546,900 - 3-7 :)

-No-deathed the first loop
-Got up to the last boss in 2-8 without dying..died once on that boss, twice in level 10
-Died only twice in 3-1..then made it to 3-7 without dying where I died on the last enemy before the boss  , it was pretty much hopeless after that

JP PS2:
elbarto - 213,490 - 1-3 – Type A

Quick question: I unlocked "Extra Edit" this morning, which is pretty cool, but I've read there are even more weapons to unlock after another 10hrs/game clear. Does anyone know what these are?

I had a post detailing them on the old forum. Lemme fire up my copy and list 'em again...

Nothing new in Missile, Double, or Laser IIRC.

Option:
F.Option - More like the Gradius V version than the Gradius III SNES version. Hold the power up button anytime your meter is on an empty slot (or has nothing highlighted) to fiddle with the spacing.

R. Option - I forget if these can be spaced out like in G3SNES... (Edit: yep, they can.)

?:
R. Shield - Like in G3SNES

Reduce II - Works the same as the normal arcade/PS2 Reduce except this one protects against bullets. You still need to activate it twice for maximum shrinkage though.

!:
Reduce - Probably the best of the Extra Extra Edit weapons. It's just like the normal ?-slot Reduce, except you can combine it with any ? shield of your choosing (except the two ?-slot Reduces) :)

Thanks! I was hoping for a decent reduce shield :D

Time to start racking up the hours again, I don't see a game clear occuring in the near future..

Gradius 3 SNES

Galaxius - 1,692,700 - 3-10

My gauge-

Hawkwind, Tailgun, Twin Laser, Rotating Options, Reduce, Lives to Options

Run breakdown-

1rst Loop - No-death

2nd Loop - Died on the Moai stage (being greedy, milking the Moai rings). Took a few lives to enter the bonus stage and get back on track. Unfortunately, I usually don't hit the Moai bonus level, as more points can be gained in the regular level.

3rd Loop - Some quick deaths early in the first stage, trying to position my power-ups for the 3-1 boss. Died inexplicably in the Speed level. Many lives used trying to get to the safety of the bonus level. Recovered, and got to the final level. The *claw-armed-amoeboids* were shooting so many bullets, they began to become transparent, and I lost sight of some and died. No recovering at this point.

Strategies-

I hit every bonus level in the game, except for the Moai one. You can pick up a bunch of 1-ups and points in these levels, if you are aggressive. And the bonus levels do not make the game easier. I'd say 75% of my deaths in this game come from the bonus levels. Picking up all of these 1-ups adds a huge stock to your total, making Lives to Options ideal.

The 2-1 and 3-1 boss-

You must get as many power-ups as possible in the beginning segment of the level to use my strategy. If you miss some of them, just suicide. Get-

Reduce first, then missiles, then finally, use Lives to Options.

You should have just enough power-ups to get Lives to Options right before the boss, with perhaps 2-3 power-ups left over. The boss is much easier with four options, as not only do you have more fire-power, but the subsequent slow-down helps you out. Trying to beat this boss with no options is extremely difficult on later loops. I have done it a few times, but my strategy is the way to go.

I was hoping to get to the 4rth Loop on this run, but this is very close, and I think I can do it eventually. The rank of the 4rth loop looks similiar to that of the expert demo (Hold A at the title until the demo plays). VERY fast bullets. I haven't reached the 5th Loop yet, so I'm not sure if the 4rth Loop rank is maxed out.

EDIT - Oops, I got to the final level of the 3rd loop, the Cell level. That's level 10, not 9.

What difficulty am I allowed? I've only played the SNES version so I'll try that one. I only play on the "Arcade" setting. You need a code to do that.

Normal Mode will do, so sorry. But hey, since you're so used to arcade mode, try normal and see how incredibly far you'll get.

Well my SNES is getting warm. I started playing last night and am currently in my 3rd loop-Volcanic Stage. I have not died yet...Believe it, I know it's hard to but it's true. My lives are all the way across the screen. My score is currently 1,427,700. This third loop is kinda harder than Arcade difficulty, I can't wait for the 4th. My weapon set-up is---Small Spread/Tail Gun/E.Laser/R.Option/Speed Down. what do you mean by "Rank" like when ya'll said "3rd loop rank" Is there some sort of symbol? If there is I can describe it to ya'll so you know I was not kidding. I'm aiming for the fith loop Galaxius, sorry but I think I'm gonna beat you're score  I still give you props for getting as far as you did though, it takes mad skillz.

Well I gotta get back to my National Guard Unit, lunch time is almost over :D

I'll tape some of my levels and the final boss fight when I finish loop 4. How do I put them on the site. I don't know what I need. I have a digital camera, maybe I can upload at least a picture of my score. :P
