Easy way to adjust H/V stretch/position on consumer CRT?

Post by cr4zymanz0r »

Basically, consoles vary a bit on how much overscan they show and sometimes image centering too. This is especially true when using various arcade PCBs on a supergun on a CRT. Ideally I'm looking for a solution that makes it easy to adjust the horizontal and vertical positioning and stretch of the image on the CRT on-the-fly. However, I could probably settle on something that lets me fully adjust the horizontal aspects.

Now I know I can go in the service menu to make adjustments and that's fine for the initial settings, but it's very slow and cumbersome if you need to make changes often.
I've also seen some Extron Interface devices that let you adjust horizontal and vertical position, but not stretch. If any exist that do both on RGBs signals then I'd like to know the model numbers :P.

Basically I want something that's quick and easy, like knobs/dials you'd have on a old PC monitor. Worst case scenario I'd even consider modding the knobs onto the TV itself if there's an "easy" way to mod a CRT TV for that (though I don't even really want to think about it unless it's my only option).

IIRC some Extron RGB units have horizontal and vertical positioning controls, and are quite cheap. I don't think they can stretch, although you really need to do that on the display itself, because any stretching of the image that isn't on the display will mess up the scanline mapping and turn it into a blurry mess.

Would also be interested in something like this, but am not holding out much hope. Been messing around with my OSSC on my 34-XBR910 and noticed the slight variation that occurs not just between consoles, but also games. Have the raster and digital scaling set near perfect by using horizontal and vertical scanlines to set digital width and height so that there were no patterns. This correlates to true pixel sizing, but Istill get some overscan on some games that have different output resolutions

In the case of the OSSC, I think profiles should help with that, as they have with the Framemeister.
