Is this joystick any good for PC Engine?

Post by hashiriya1 »

So this thing has been sitting at a local recycle store for a couple months. I already have the Hori PC engine stick, but this one looks slick. It's a bit pricey but if it's good I'll get it.

fabulous price for the XE-1 Pro. It's rather small, which allows you to hold it in yours hands while playing. That's nice option and something you can't do with a Hori.

That's quite a find and surprised no one has snatched it up yet! The Hori PC Engine stick is excellent too (I have the Super Famicom equivalent) but these Micomsoft XE-1 Pros are highly rated and sought after. I believe they originally retailed for ¥9,500 Definitely a quality build that I would not pass up.

Well now i want to get that arcade stick for my PCE. Thanks a lot since it seems these sticks are expensive and hard to come by :(

The Hori Fighting Stick PC is an ace arcade stick on the PC Engine/Duo/Duo-R/Duo-RX platform & even on the venerable TurboGrafx-16 & Turbo Duo consoles as well (just gotta use a TG-16 to PC Engine controller cord adapter & you're good to go). I've noticed that my scores are higher with the Hori Fighting stick PC setup any ol' day compared to using a plain Turbo/Duo Pad setup.

Sucks to see that NEC nor any 3rd-party accessory company didn't make/release a dedicated PC-FX arcade stick though (would it look similar to the 1st-party NEC PC-FX gamepad in terms of overall visual appeal?) -- there were plans to release a dedicated PC-FX multi-tap (but even that never was done/implemented).

Plus the fact that with the awesome Micomsoft XE-1 Pro HE joystick is the option to select either 8-way or 4-way joystick movement from the get-go (the actual Atari Games Klax arcade puzzler upright & mini cabs sported a dedicated 4-way joystick scheme so that XE-1 Pro HE stick will perfectly replicate that precise joystick scheme for use with Tengen's Klax on the PCE platform as the "gold standard" to play it properly) + change the angle of buttons I & II to your liking + even some slick LED lights for auto-fire status along with adjustable auto-fire slider switches for more precise auto-fire rates (compared to the fixed auto-fire rates/settings with a stock NEC PCE gamepad). There's even access to four more PCE game controller ports on the right side of the joystick effectively turning it into a handy multi-tap as well. Hands-free auto-fire for both buttons or just one button is possible/selectable. How cool is that? Micomsoft went the extra mile with this XE-1 Pro joystick quite easily with innovative features & functionality that aren't found on other 3rd-party produced PCE joysticks to this very day.

I did see a local Japanese game store selling a brand new boxed XE joystick for the Sega Mega Drive back in early 2000 but passed up on it at that point in time.
