EDIT : Maybe i was never much of a fan of the original Afterburner judging by everyone else remarks :? i always preferred space harrier
Yes, give me Afterburner gameplay with those graphics and even more adrenalin-rush speed (That's what the video looks like), and I am more than satisfied.

I don't need anything else really.

Edit: In the other hand, I never understood why people enjoy Space Harrier.

I stopped believing any of the hype that Sony and their fanboys put out, the day the ps2 was released. Everyone thought they were getting a graphics pushing emotion engine creating missile launcher but instead all they got was an overhyped Dreamcast full of old tech.

So when someone tells me "just imagine the graphics on the ps3..." all I can do is laugh because rolling my eyes that far back could be dangerous....

Fuck it, I'm still buying it...

And I'm holding your hand in line.
I'm still surprised that AM2 is together again-there was a whole thread on an earlier incarnation of this site about AM2 being dissolved.
Rumor I'm sure... or perhaps you're mistaking it for the reports of Yu Suzuki not working with AM2 (which are true, and have been for a while now).
But with Sega's good support of the XBOX, and the fact that Outrun 2 was ported to the XBOX in 2004-a year after it was released in arcades-I wouldn't be at all surprised if this gets a 360 port.'
You're missing the point Dave. Chihiro = Xbox w/ some RAM. That means a port is very similar to a Naomi game getting a Dreamcast port. Outrun2 BARELY came out. It was even scrapped once if I'm not mistaken, despite the fact that a monkey could do the port. This is brand new hardware, ported to brandnew hardware. Of course it would be nice to see it, but it's pure speculation at this port. Sega really didn't go out of their way to support the Xbox other than a few titles... many of which were more popular in the US to begin with (eg: JSR and Panzer Dragoon).
"Didn't go out of their way to support the XBOX" :?: There are far more Sega developed, and published games, for the XBOX then there are for either the Cube or the PS2. When people complain about the XBOX not getting a Sega game, it's pretty similar to someone who owns an N64 griping that that console didn't get enough Rare support. Good points about the hardware, though. I still think that there's a high probability that this game will get a 360 port-the first video footage of After Burner Climax was leaked out of E3, and After Burner 360, as it was known then, was put up on IGN's 360 release site-that's no guarantee, but there isn't even mention of this game getting a port on either the PS3 or the Revolution.

Glad you got to go to the show! How long is the flight from Honolulu to Tokyo?

@the n00b: Most people didn't buy a PS2 because of the graphics; they bought one because the PS2 simply has more game titles to choose from then either the XBOX or the Cube. Of course it's not as powerfull as either the Cube or the XBOX; I own all 3 and I can plainly see that-but a huge selection of games to choose from goes a long way, and that's why the PS2 is still ahead of the other 2 systems.

At any rate, right now I'd be pretty happy if House of the Dead 4 and Virtua Cop 3 finally showed up on the XBOX.

There's not, unless there were stacks of Xbox and GC games I missed. The Sega Ages library is up to what? 20 games alone that aren't on either of the othrse? Ryu ga Gotoku, Sakura Taisen series, The Virtua Fighters, the Shining games, etc. etc.

There's no mention of any port. All the E3 video footage was "next generation video footage". It was assumed (falsely) by IGN that Lindberg would favor 360 as Chihiro did the Xbox, thus, they said they were expecting to see it on the 360. You can't blame them. How could a western news site fathom an arcade release.

9 hours one way, 6 the other. Bad winds. It's not as close as you'd think, but it's better than to/from Texas.

Guys... it's obvious that the PS3 will have better graphics than the 360. OBVIOUS. I'm not saying that it will make you better in bed or re-shingle your roof  , but it will outdo the 360 in the graphics department - just as the X-Box outdid the PS2. Even if it isn't popular to say so (for some reason) - it will. :o

OK Gaijin, I see where you're coming from now-and where IGN was coming from. I wonder if it was for the same reasons that IGN lists Virtua Cop 3 and House of the Dead 4 as TBA for the XBOX? I don't know if the XBOX could handle a Lindberg game-which House of the Dead 4 is.

Did you get to play Time Crisis 4? That looks awesome! :D

I didn't play Time Crisis 4. Gun games aren't my thing really. I played some HoTD4, but wasn't that impressed with it to be honest. Again -- just not my thing. Xbox can't handle Lindbergh (not perfectly anyway). VF5 makes this extremely clear. I've not seen DOA4 yet to really comment on how it would look on the Xbox, but I assume it's roughly the same league, although that's hard to believe w/ all the turds that came out w/ the Xbox 360. :)

in space harrier you actually dodge stuff instead of sticking the direction to lower right and never move again (that was the master system version but you get the idea). still, this new one does look hot.

After that you had to start going up, then down again, then up again, ... etc. with exactly the right timing, and not encounter a missle during a direction change. ;)

The only two games in the series that I've ever played are Space Harrier II, on the Genesis, and the Sega Ages remake of the first one. I've never actually played the original. But, when I get more money, I would like to get a hold of Yu Suzuki Game Works.

Well, there's actually something on the official website!:

http://sega-afterburner.com/

Looks awesome as ever! :D IGN continues to list this as an XBOX 360 game:

"A next-generation version of Sega's classic arcade game, brought to life with amazingly realistic displays from the air on Xbox 360 and arcade machines.

Where TF did they see this running on a 360?? There's no mention of a home port on Sega's website.

Hmm, afaik there is no 360 version at this time, and IGN just have a poorly written article. It's almost certain that Climax will eventually make its way to a home console in some form, but we have to be patient to discover whether that will be 360 or PS3 - or both.

Agreed. I just LOVE this justification they give for their release dates:

http://xbox360.ign.com/mail/index.html

Yes, game release dates can change like the weather, but how about the folks at IGN sticking their heads out of the windows once and a while? :? Cripes, all I had to do, with regards to Raiden III, is call up XS Games and ASK. :?

The Lindbergh was probably Sega's PS3 arcade hardware equivalent all along to begin with, even though I heard on insertcredit awhile back that Sega said it was supposed to be "platform-neutral," which means I'll have to get a PS3 just to be able to play this game and Virtua Fighter 5 :(.

Oh wait. It uses a Geforce 6 graphics card instead of a 7. There may still be hope for a 360 port, although it should be easier for a PS3 one anyway, considering that Sony's console will have an Nvidia chipset inside.

Posted: Thu Sep 14, 2006 2:28 am Post subject: After Buner Climax

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I keep trying to find more info on this game, does it have a release date yet for the arcade? Has it had any test locations in Japan yet? If so.... NTSC-J, have you seen or heard anything?

I would have been worried about the game with Yu Suzuki not with AM2 if it weren't for OutRun 2. That was a perfect sequal.

I'm really glad AM2 still has there bright and vivid graphic style and settings. There is alot of nostalgia with those games for me and i love hearing those old tunes renewed ect.

I have seen some pics and am very happy with them. Now just comes the worst part, hoping for a home port. Sega is notorious for making great arcade games with no ports. Scud Racer comes to mind. I still have hopes with the sega ages though.... Virtua On just got announced along with the Wonder Boy collection.

I want a Thunder Blade port OR an update like AF Climax.... I'm losing focus on my post though now. I need more After Burner Climax info. Plus I'm always curious what others are thinking about also...

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Sega are outsourcing the PSP game though... and it's an original project, not a port of the arcade. The true AM2 goodness remains on arcades for now.

Regarding ABC, I think and hope that it could go multi-platform. A PS3 port may well be easier considering Nvidia is involved in Sony's system, but I don't think Sega is abandoning 360 either. VF5 looks like something that justifies getting PS3- finally.

I've seen shots of PSP After Burner: Black Falcon and so far am not impressed by that. The timer and cash counter on the screen make for two things that just aren't After Burner IMO. It's a shame Sega farmed this out to Planet Moon.

Well, I know that we are going to get this one, unlike VF5 in arcade format here in the US-in fact, it seems that it's already out! :D :

I'll seriously have to give Dave & Busters here in Denver a call to see if they have it yet! :D

Didn't see this post until now, but yea it's been out for a while now. I haven't played it personally but I've watched people and it seems ok. Not really my type of game, but it looks pretty sharp and the cabinet is pretty involved.
