There's also a number of Extron CVC 300 units up on eBay right now at a very affordable price:BazookaBen wrote:The Audio Authority 9A62 and 9A65 do a good conversion, and they can be found cheap on ebay if you get lucky. Tim's N64RGB is always an option.GeneraLight wrote:Okay so

The NUS-CPU-04 and newer, however, cannot because SMT components have been left off the board as a cost cutting measure, so there is no buffered C-Sync output available from the 'MULTI OUT' port from this revision and onwards.

True, although I'm getting the "official" RGB mod installed by RetroFixes since I have a launch NS100xx model.bobrocks95 wrote:Tim's N64RGB is always an option.GeneraLight wrote:Okay so

I'm pretty sure NUS-CPU-03 and older motherboards have CSync wired up, buffered and ready to go. 01, 02 and 03 are all identical with the same chips and components. 04 can still be modded for RGB, but requires modding to restore the CSync. 05 and newer cannot be easily modded for RGB and completely lack CSync.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
There was a thread yesterday or so about forcing Wii titles to 480p, anyone know where else this is documented? The thread seems to have been deleted? Thanks
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
The thread was about patching MM9 and MM10 before forcing them into 480p using Wiiflow, but Arasoi found out later on that the patching wasn't neccessary any longer using a current version of Wiiflow. So, look into Wiiflow and you should be all set.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Is there any way to patch Mega Man 9 and 10 so they'll boot in 480p on their own without Wiiflow or other programs?

If you've got other ideas everyone's all ears, but this is the best method that's been found so far. Running Wiiloader isn't nearly as big of a hassle as patching the WAD was.GeneraLight wrote:Yeah. Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Is there any reason why I wouldn't be getting picture from my PCE-CD when I start a new game in Exile?
It's running on an RGB modded interface unit the chain is this:
PCE+PCE-CD->Interface->RGB->Scart to BNC adapter->VP30->Analog out->Display
The title screen displays without any issues.

Welcome to the world of RGB on the PCE
Same thing happened to me on the XRGB-3 and even on early Framemeister FW version. Very few games caused this. I had image dropouts during the Ys 1+2 intro (with the night sky and the lightning).
You can TRY if maybe unlocking the output refresh rate on the VP30 works. If not, redoing the RGB amp (boosting the sync signal as well maybe) is the only thing you can do.

Thanks. I'll have to give unlocking the frame rate a try later.Fudoh wrote:Welcome to the world of RGB on the PCE![]()

Edit: Unlocking the framerate did it for Exile. I'll have to give Ys and some other games a shot later.

does this work for other 480i only Wii titles? (Mad World, Pangya Golf, etc.) and if so does it work well? (is it real 480p? or does it cause flickering or combing artifacts?)

I can confirm it's true 480p, the image quality is extremely improved on my plasma and I haven't seen any combing artifacts, which my plasma does produce with a 480i signal.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I dug out my Cinemated POP2 to test if my unit supports 1080p through DVI, and it did. But, I saw some weird "contouring" lines in cyan, purple and green over the image. I then tried the same source through VGA on the same monitor, again in 1080p, and the lines weren't there. Anyone know what's up with that?
For what's it worth, I was feeding component signal from a modded PAL PS2 to the POP2. I can take pics later if that helps. The monitor I'm using is an Eizo EV2302W which is a bit finicky and tries to be a bit too smart with some signals when it comes to centering them etc.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
yes, 1080p wasn't offcially supported on the DVI output. You can use it, but even the manual did state something about possible artefacts due to a bandwith limitation somewhere. So, officially DVI is for 768p and 1080i, while VGA supported 960p, 1024p and 1080p.I dug out my Cinemated POP2 to test if my unit supports 1080p through DVI, and it did. Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Gotcha.
I have some further questions because I only have this one LCD monitor to test the unit with.
The image is never displayed full screen. I think this is the Eizo's doing. When I try to adjust things, I can only move the image horizontally from the input settings. If I try to adjust the vertical placement or the size, nothing happens. From the output settings not a single value changes anything. The monitor flashes and the image stays as it is. What's up with that?
Also, sometimes I get this thin bar of noise in the bottom of the image, or a part of the image I am trying to display is partly visible there in the thin bar. I can't seem to get rid of that. I already had some troubles with this monitor when using a PS3 with it. Some resolutions looked like total garbage because of the way the monitor scales them. So maybe this is a similar situation?

Well that looks pretty damn nice. To my eyes everything except the character select icons work well in 240p. Thanks a lot for those, Blair. That is some throughout documenting. I appreciate it. I'll post some shots later of how the game looks like for me now that I have the Garo.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
My PVM14N6U does not seem to remember geometry settings. I can save them, turn the unit off and on and it's still saved.....but when I come back to use it a few days later it is always messed up. Is there anything I can do to remedy this? Right now I'm thinking of writing down all my settings on a piece of paper to make setting it up each time faster (and more consistent)...but I'm sure there has to be an internal battery somewhere I can replace.....right?
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
The settings are saved in an EPROM, no battery is involved. Are you sure that you're saving them right? The save option in the user menu doesn't save the service menu values, and saving in the service menu is a bit tricky (since two buttons must be pressed simultaneously). From the service manual:
To write the data from the RAM to the EEPROM, press the [MENU] and [ENTER] keys once, check that SAVE is displayed at Guidance, and then press the [MENU] and [ENTER] keys again. Take note that when SAVE ≥≥ is displayed at Guidance, the items displayed as well as all data will be written.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Yeah that's what I've been doing (thankfully, so I don't feel stupid asking the question LOL). I hit the menu and enter keys at the same time and it pops up and says SAVE, then when I hit them both a second time two little music notes pop up for a couple seconds. It seems to stay saved for a little-while, but if I leave the unit off for several hours it won't be saved anymore. Seems to mostly affect the pin-cushion settings (phase, middle, and edge), but I don't really notice anything else not saving.Guspaz wrote:The settings are saved in an EPROM, no battery is involved. I'll test it by making a bunch of arbitrary changes and writing down the original and changed values, then coming back and looking at the values the next day and seeing what it did and didn't save. If there is a problem with the EPROM I guess I'll have to keep a list of values and get very used to going through the settings a couple times a week until I'm ready to upgrade to a bigger monitor.
Thanks for taking the time to look that up for me

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Does anyone have any experience shipping CRTs within the continental US? I'm potentially looking to send some 20" PVMs through the mail and I'd really really like them to travel safely. I asked on Twitter and RetroRGB said that freight shipping is best for monitors, but FedEx quoted me about $480 for freight shipping compared to $80 for ground shipping. Is that just how much is costs to keep a monitor in good shape?
Any advice on shipping CRTs would be greatly appreciated!

How does line doubling work without storing anything? It takes half the time for a 31KHz line to be drawn, so if it didn't store anything wouldn't it only being drawing half of a scanline's worth of data into a whole scanline? Wouldn't it have to store a whole line before outputting it twice?
